Anyone have an opinion on which ferry route is best for France. Where are the best prices found thanks in anticipation.

DFDS from Newhaven to Dieppe are good if you choose the right day to travel, similarly on the return journey. Not as luxurious as Brittany Ferries but still very good. Also the morning crossing is a little later in leaving which helps if you do not live locally. The Brighton site  is a convenient stopover prior to travelling.

Portsmouth to Ouistreham is good though more expensive especially on the AM crossings. The afternoon crossing is usually cheaper, again depending on the day of travel. If using the PM crossing we usually stay the night just short of Caen at Camping Seasonova Riva Bella(ACSI 1394 )

Clearly it will depend on where you live and where you are heading on the other side so clearly you need to do the sums to see if travelling further this side is offset by a lower ferry fare.

PS It's always cheaper to book through the club.

    Happy touring!

For western France I like a night crossing with Brittany Ferries (Plymouth - Roscoff). Arrive in the evening for a glass or two of wine and french cheese to get me into french mode. Next 6 or 7 hours sleep in a comfortable cabin, croissants and coffee for breakfast and arrive in France fresh, relaxed and ready to go.

For NE France/Belgium/Holland I like Dover to Dunkirk with DFDS if you want quick, no frills and inexpensive.

Generally booking thru the club will be the cheapest but as others said depending on where you are starting from and going to end up will maybe determine which route you take.  Dover-Calais will generally be the cheapest as its the shortest crossing but if you live in Cornwall then Plymouth/Portsmouth/Poole would be closer or coming from up north many people use Hull or Newcastle as a stating point.

Would you consider the tunnel instead of a ferry?

I can see prices of £185 return in June for a smallish Motorhome plus 2 adults if you pay in full with money - or £62 return if you have a fistful of Tesco vouchers.

Your profile doesn't say where you are, or whether you have a caravan or a motorhome; however, we always use the tunnel with Tesco vouchers, as per the previous post.  It doesn't matter how few or many vouchers you have, you just pay the difference.  It is more expensive with a car+caravan though than with a motorhome.

Hi A&S, in line with other posters to be able to make suggestions you need to say where from, destination, dates, time of day , party details, including pets if any, and degree of flexibility..............sounds a lot but it is really the basics to help out.

My recommendations would be to not discount anything and never assume that a great deal someone else has had will be available to you when you wish to travel so check, check and check again! Oh, and have a great time when you go!
