Annecy/Chamonix campsites

Would like to visit Annecy and Mont Blanc this June. We cannot decide whether to make this two centres, {although aware that they are quite close by) or to find a campsite which will be convenient for both. Would be very grateful to receive reviews of campsites suitable for these and especially any that will facilitate visiting both areas.

Many of the Lake Annecy sites are at the southern end of the lake- there is a wide choice and even in June it will be busy. From there to Chamonix is not far short of two hours each way, so I would say you need to choose two sites for the two locations.

If you are on the spot in Chamonix - perhaps at Camping les Deux Glaciers - you can be first in the queue early on a sunny morning for the big cable cars. But we take warm clothes if you going high to the Aiguille du Midi.

Last September we stayed at Camping le Solitaire du Lac at St Jorioz, 5 km south of Anecy on the west side of the lake. A nice continental style site close to lake, a Carrefour supermarket within walking distance and cycle path into Annecy and around the lake. Beautiful mountain views, we will visit again.

We love L'Escale at Le Grand Bornand. It is right on the edge of a very pretty typical Alpine mountain village. Less than 5 minutes walk  to the centre of the village. The site has excellent facilities including a pool alothough there are also two very nice municipal pools a five minute walk away.Although there are some excellent shops in the village the nearest supermarket with fuel is 9km (5 miles).

Chamonix and Annecy  are within easy reach as are many other interesting areas without the need to stay in any of the busier hotspots. Annecy is, from memory, only about 25km (15 miles) away and Chamonix just over 55km (35 miles).

We've been to the site four times now even though we always intended never to go stay at the same place more than once when in France (apart from overnight stopovers en-route)!

I should have added that the site is an ACSI site and if going up to about mid July we have never needed to book.

I would agree with all of this. Photographs we took suggest that we stayed at this campsite near Chamonix - next junction down the valley? There was a free (with visitor card given by site) bus service to Chamonix. If you go into Chamonix on a clear day I'd suggest you check at cable car about how clear the weather is at the top and if clear spend the money to go across to Italy. Fantastic experience!

We stayed five miles from Chamonix and moved on to Lake Annecy in 2017. All the information about the areas and sites we stayed on are in my blog [saves me typing it out again]

Looking back, found this photo from July 2005, taken from the municipal site in Chamonix. The site was full of young folk all with big tackety climbing boots! ( No boots allowed in the shower block).

Don't do what I did whilst at Chamonix. Unhooked from car without setting the hand brake, could have killed some people further down the site and nearly lost my van. Forgot we were on a mountainside!

In 2015 we stayed at camping Le Colombiere, in Neydens. 12km from Geneva, about 1 hour on the motorway to Chamonix, and I think about 1/2 hour to Annecy absolutely stunning as was Chamonix. The site is near Mt Saleve and 5 km down the road from the site is a cable car the top beautiful views over Geneva and lac Leman.  Site was very good with large pitches. We had caravan + awning + gazebo and the car all with plenty of room on the pitch. We found it nice and central  to get around.

We stayed in st Gervais led Bains  about 45 minutes from Chamonix.

Beautiful site on the edge of the town with a view of Mont Blanc from the caravan window.
