    I'm like others here though what is this Brexit (sound like a breakfast cereal) and how will it affect caravans and MH over there Dave? A serious question.

    I share your feelings, Deleted User User.  We have now committed ourselves to our 2019 French holiday.  Campsite booked and deposit paid, Red Pennant M&P Insurance paid, Ferry booked and deposit paid.   Now we are wondering if we need to heed the media's hype and get an International Driving Permit and a Green Card for my car insurers.  And there is the doubt concerning Stirling/Euro exchange rates - I am trying to guess the best time to buy them, but it will just be hit and miss. Might be lucky, and might not.  Last year I got my Euros for 1.169€ to the £ - at the moment it's looking more like 1.100 to the £. Before the referendum, 1.25€ to the £, or even better, was the norm.

    Comprehensive advice from the AA about the IDP(s) seems to suggest (to me) that after 31/01/2019 the issued 1968 IDP will be recognised even by countries which currently only recognise the 1949/1926 treaty IDP's (but don't quote me).   https://www.theaa.com/driving-advice/driving-abroad/idp.  

    We CANNOT issue 1968 Convention IDPs – these will be required from 28 March by 1968 Convention countries that currently recognise UK-issued 1926 (Liechtenstein) or 1949 IDPs (Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Malta, Cyprus), as well as by some EU countries in the event of a 'no deal' Brexit.  (Bold in brackets copied from elsewhere on the AA page)

    I think I will leave any decision on going to Europe this year until after the 29th March. If after that date there are too many hoops to jump through I just won't bother. We are fortunate that we have toured in Europe for many years since 1987 but at least we have the UK to fall back on if things become less easy, of more complicated.

    Looking to do the same

     I'm just lying here in hospital after an op and thinking I need to progress my life without all the hassle that's in the media. There is still much to see in the uk and that is probably were my plans will lie.

    I’m beginning to think the golfing weekend to Portugal 12 of us from work have organised might not have been such a great idea.

    Depart 06.00 29th March

    Return 19.30 1st April (hopefully)

    Yes we knew. Unfortunately its not easy to get dates when 12 people are free for a long weekend. I wonder why everyone had these dates free!

    My wife and I are booked on the Portsmouth /Bilbao ferry on the 27 February to start our three months tour of Spain. With all the hassle going on with the possibility of a no deal Brexit I decided to play safe and get a IDP and a green card. Firstly I found out that only main post offices issue the IDP, I was informed that the PO issue them on behalf of the AA. The friendly staff at the Nottingham PO were really helpful to the point that they informed us that the system would change on the 1 February and the another 2500 PO issuing the IDP, they also informed us that if we were travelling through France we would need another IDP as the Spanish IDP was not legal in France.

    On the green card I rang caravan guard our insurers, and I told them I was a little concerned that I could not be legal in Spain if we left Brexit with a no deal. They informed me that they had had many calls on the same subject and that they would issue the green card with a admin free charge only (£15) instead of the normal £26. When I informed them I was away for three months she said she would have to talk to a manager as the green card is only valid for one month. To cut a long story short she informed me they would issue the green card for three months with only a admin charge of £15.

    So if we leave with a no deal it is going cost a little more to tour abroad.

    Just in case you need to know, thousands of post offices around the country are now once again (From 1st February) able to issue you with an International Driving Permit.

    You need to take along your UK driving licence, a passport style photo and £5.50.

    Our local post office is now listed - thank goodness, so we don't have to do a thirty mile round trip!  Now it's just a nice walk into town!
