Hi folks,

I am looking for a cl for a one night stopover on our way south from Bolton to Cornwall for our summer holidays. We are going to be heading off after work on a Friday pm and would like to get a few hours travel under our belts Friday before a long days drive on the Saturday. Any recommendations of a cl within easy access of the M6 or the northern reaches of the M5 would be much appreciated. The ones I have found up to now either have no electric, poor reviews or are quite a distance from a motorway junction.

Cheers

Andy

How about Woodlands Farm near Worcester, easy access from the M5 J6, large grass pitches, EHU, has a loo but no shower. Pub just up the road. Might even be there at the same time heading in the opposite direction! smile

There are numerous CLs with EHU within easy reach of the M5 in the Weston-s-Mare/ Burnham/ Highbridge/ Bridgwater area around 130 miles from mid-Cornwall.

I'd look at places in Worcestershire as suggested or Gloucestershire. If you're very late you could stay on Gloucs Services LINK you'd have to manage without EHU but they do have good shower rooms etc.

edit just spotted Droitwich Spa Marina, close to the M5, another one to consider?

Because it would increase his choice of places to stay.

Of course  he might want to tow 200 miles from Bolton to Weston Super Mare or Bridgewater on a Friday night after work who know’s ?

We keep our van in storage and our requirement would be exactly the same to get the battery charged up before getting somewhere we may need the mover.

So far as sites are concerned there are many but it will of course depend on where the OP thinks they will be after a few hours and how many sites will take them at whatever time that happens to be.

Sites we have used, for the reverse journey, are Minnows at Sampford Peverell and Hortham Farm just off the M5 at Almondsbury.

There are many who do almost the entire journey and then park up to await the arrival time at their site

Two of my nephews travel down from Darwen, near Bolton, each year and have each successive year got that bit closer to try and avoid the chaos of a Saturday in the school holiday periods. Rather like the bird in the hand an hour on a Friday night could be worth at least two on the Saturday.

I think you are misjudging people who may not be aware why some need EHU. It's not control more a lack of understanding. I've known posters on here who need EHU for medical purposes but you never know the OP could possibly manage without EHU and that does increase the possibilities for him and his family. smile

Oh dear, it didn't even occur to me to question WHY the OP wanted EHU - he asked for advice which I gave based on that. Hope it was helpful. I have no idea why folk would question why he needed EHU for one night - why not just help if you can and stay away from the thread if you can't? undecided

I think it’s very likely Andyrmanc has considered the non-EHU option as he categorically states he requires EHU.

He asked about CLs with EHU near the motorways and I shared my knowledge. If my offering is too far south he will ignore it but at least I made a constructive suggestion rather than querying his requirements in a rather unfriendly manner.

Try Stable Park CL near Stafford, just off J14 of M6.

As you are leaving Bolton on a Friday pm you may well have your plans hijacked by the M60, M56 or M6 Friday nightmare so have a plan B. Good luck.

It's chaos on the M6 all the time now!

Friday evening, either direction, don't expect to get anywhere quickly.

To drive from Bolton to Cornwall, after a day at work doesn't bear thinking about 😱

Agree with Moulesy about Woodlands Farm, easy to get to from M5 Junc 6. Another option could be Pardon Hill Fm, Gotherington, nr Cheltenham,  about 7 mls from the M5 Junc 9 (the Tewksbury turnoff). H/S and EHU. About  140mls from Bolton.

Sorry I had the stupidity to suggest that for a 6-8hour stop an ehu might not actually be necessary. Fortunately the self appointed guardians of this forum soon put me right and maintained the reputation that they have earned for this site.

I'm sure the OP will accept your apology for the 'suggestion' -

" I was going to post exactly the same what is the need for ehu?"

Me, I’m used to your need to use sarcasm.

Andy, if none of the suggestions so far meet your needs use the map search on UKCampsite.co.uk and it will give you a wider choice by showing just about every site up and down the M6 and M5.

    Hi All,

Apologies for not responding to your posts, I have been a tad busy. Anyway hopefully tomorrow I should be able to read through your responses and see if anything suits our plans.

     Ok here goes,

The point about non electric is a fair point and we have done some non EHU caravanning both CL's and rallies so we are quite comfortable with a few nights with just the battery and solar panel. If we can't sort a EHU CL then we will try for a non EHU no problem but given the choice while on our holidays then EHU all the way for us.

I think some of the suggestions are a little too far south for our Friday departure as I am all too aware of the traffic congestion on Friday evenings heading south on the M6. We once booked a CL the other side of Wolverhampton heading south and it took us over 4 hours to get there from Bolton!

I am going to give Stable Park CL a call later to check if they have availability. We are also stopping at Cadeside CAMC site for a couple of days heading south and we have a nice CL near Gloucester booked for a few days on the return journey.

    Thanks for all your replies,

    Andy

Success :-) Stable Park CL booked.

Anybody got any comments on the entrance as Google maps doesn't show which entry road you use? We will be entering Within Lane from the B5066 so the site will be on our rhs.

    Cheers

    Andy

    Good site.

Go to 'View on map' on the CL's web page, put it on satellite and you will clearly see the new CL layout. It's the last entry after the statics/park homes and is the 4th entrance I think. The gate has a coded lock on it.
