European Breakdown cover
Hi everyone,
Our breakdown cover has come up for renewal from RAC it has gone up by 100 pounds!
It has now gone up to 314 pounds and this covers up to 3 call outs in a year. Has anyone got a better sugggestion than RAC?
Thanks,
Pamela

Have you rung them and haggled? RAC are usually very amenable to a bit of haggling and threatening to go to a competitor. 👍🏻

eurobreakdown.com is one company I am looking at - as it provides overseas caravan breakdown cover as well as car breakdown cover.

I try to mention Green Flag when I discuss prices with RAC. It helps😀

Nationwide FlexPlus is good for us. Do check out their terms and conditions, it covers our motorhome and cars. Worldwide travel insurance, again check for your health - it can be extended length and healthwise for very reasonable cost. Other benefits including 5% interest on up to £2500 & a regular saving account attracting the same! This virtually covers the current £13 fee.

Dear TerryKW
As you appear to be a caravanner I would suggest that a good deal of the recommendations do not apply as they only relate to a Motorhome and some only give you 30 days cover.
If you are still undecided then I can but recommend Green Flag European Cover. In May 2017 we could not avoid a massive pothole on the motorway about 30 miles south of Dijon. It blew the rear air suspension pipe - and with noises and malfunction notices flashing we can to a grinding halt on the hard shoulder.
Green Flag were super. They arranged a tow wagon / low loader for car and caravan off the motorway at not far short of Euro 500. Then the following morning (these things always happen on a Bank Holiday don't they?!) they send two further trucks... the first to take the car to the main dealer in Dijon and the second to get us and caravan onto a campsite nearby which they had found and booked (but we had to pay).
They then rang the mobile asking if we would like a hire car - and even sent a taxi to take me the 25 miles back into Dijon to pick up that hire car which we had for 5 days. They maintained contact throughout the period asking if we needed help with the garage which we did not as the garage were very helpful and we had a French speaker with us. But they would have helped with translation if needed.
It was great service at a great price - especially as it came Free with my bank account. Cannot speak highly enough of their assistance
Hope this helps and that you never have to use them!!
