Just tried to do a quotation online for next years travel plans. After filling in all required fields, regarding car, caravan, passengers, dates etc got an error message to the effect - can't give quotations for holidays where the start date is beyond 31/12/18frown

Give me strength, its 2019!!

Anyway, after reading a recent discussion regarding onward travel in the event of an accident, did anyone find the definitive answer as to whether Red Pennant covers you, if you only have a return ferry date booked but no sites?

Well you will get breakdown cover and repatriation, but I don't think you can have onward travel to a site you haven't booked, can you. I mean, everyone would ask to be taken to a Greek island, wouldn't they. Take care.

I queried the online service just before Christmas and was advised that it would be available from 1st January.  Obviously this hasn’t happened undecided

Just been on 'Chat' to clarify onward travel senario following a car accident (caravan OK) on route to next site (but site not booked), and received information, which I'll try to summarise -

    1. Caravan will be recovered along with car following an accident.

    2. A hire vehicle would be provided (probably without a towbar)

3 If site you were heading to was nearby, caravan would be towed to that site. If the site was further afield, accomodation on that site would be hired for your use, and you drive hire car to that site. Caravan would be put in storage whilst waiting for repair.

4 This would not be affected due to not having a booking, as you are driving to a site you have in mind (and may have emailed regarding availability)

5 If car not repaired by pre-booked ferry date, you drive to ferry in hire car, leave it there and they then provide onward travel from Uk port. Car and caravan will be repatriated at a later date

Obviously there are other senarios depending on the extent of damage to car or caravan, but it suggests (and hopefully confirms) that not having a site booking, does not affect continuation of holiday/onward travel

We haven't taken out Red Pennant for a few years now but I understood from previous posts, that a 'Tow car'would be provided until your car was repaired or until your ferry date which ever was the soonest.

I'm pretty sure that I have read somewhere where a person broke down in France and a tow car was brought from the UK for them on a transporter, the tow car dropped off and the owners car taken back to the uk on same transporter. When the owner returned home after the holiday his car was sat on his driveway having been repaired.

I'm not sure that I would like to pay out for a service that doesn't provide me with a tow car to complete my holiday but stores my caravan and then repatriates both car and caravan at a later date.

    Is that normal??

    Thanks for a helpful answer.

Your point 5 needs a bit more detail for dog owners who have to leave a hire car at Calais and come back as foot passengers.  In that event you can't bring a dog with you as a foot passenger on P&O ferries, nor on any of the Channel tunnel trains. In addition foot passengers cannot bring a dog home with them on any of the Brittany Ferries routes if you have to leave a hire car at any of their ports.

We dont have a pet, so didn't pose that question, but I got the impression from their responces that each individual situation possibly needs a different degree of support, so perhaps with a pet, things would be different.

If I had a pet, I think I would be asking that question for peace of mind.
