Campsites near canals
Can anyone recommend campsites near canals please ? I am very interested in cycling along canals. Last year I stayed at the Bath Marina Camp and biked along the Kennet and Avon Canal. Beautiful scenery and a few pubs to quench ones thirst. Loved it so much I want to do some more. So I would appreciate it if you have any suggestions of good rides near a good camp. Thanks.

Probably a bit too close to Bath, but at Sells Green near Devizes there is the C&CC site and next door a small site behind the 3 Magpies pub, both right on the doorstep of the K&A.
There is a CL, I think called Cambria Cruisers right by the canal near Brecon. Haven't stayed there but it always looks good and popular when we walk past.
And near Ellesmere there is a site next to the canal towpath which again we've walked past, but I can't remember the name - Google will be your friend there.
Hope that helps. Good luck.
Edit - think the last one is called Ty Mawr and is a C&CC CS, so you'd have to be a member.

Warwick Racecourse, five minutes across racecourse brings you to Grand Union Canal, miles and miles of safe cycling with lots of industrial heritage, some built up sections, some very rural. Lots of pubs.
Or, Minnows Caravan Site, near Tiverton. Used to be on Club Site network, but not from this year. Stunningly beautiful Grand Western Canal, used to link Taunton and Tiverton. Very rural, but pubs along the way, lots of wildlife. There’s a very basic CL in Sampford Peverell as well, brilliant in Summer, very quiet.

Or go the other way and cycle to the furthest corner of England ( well nearly )!!

Just tried an experiment and put the word "canal" in search, this proved to be worth it, you'll see various waterside sites appearing. I'd like to visit the one at Stoke Bruerne, it's non EHU so not everyone's cup of tea. But it's a very interesting canal village. LINK (I'm a bit biased, my mother in law was born on the Grand Union.)

How about the Leeds/Liverpool Canal in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales? Try Eshton Road Campsite at Gargrave, Niffany Farm near Skipton, Riverside campsite at Cononley all within a short distance of the canal, and the river Wharfe, with some beautiful cycling. Skipton is a nice market town, with castle, and good markets on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Satuday. Plenty of places to eat, a really good farm shop (Keelham Farm) and lots of independent businesses as well as a couple of department stores.
We're currently walking the Leeds/Liverpool canal (in stages).
There are lots of other non-cycling activities, also, and beautiful scenery all around.2 -
The Club site called Hebden Bridge is not too far from the Rochdale Canal. Poolsbrook is within cycling distance of the Chesterfield Canal.

Isn't that more correctly the Llangollen arm of the Shropshire union. It would be a great ride into Llangollen.
A CL right on the Grand Union Canal is Grove Lock Marina and another at Stoke Bruerne Is Home Farm CL, walking distance of the Canal Musuem and the Blisworth Tunnel..
In the Midlands there is the Kingsbury Waterside C&CC site, within spitting distance of the Birmigham and Fazeley Canal and the waterside park. Both offer excellent cycling routes.

My review of Kings Orchard Marina
'We chose this site purely for location and weren't disappointed. Site is well maintained and facilities are excellent. If you are sensitive to noise there is both road and rail noise (24hrs) which I found quite intrusive for the first night. Local pub The plough has very good food and drink. Lovely walks along tow path. National Arboretum is only a 10 minute drive away as is the lovely city of Lichfield'

Hatton Country World CL, south east of Birmingham is a short walk to the Grand Union. I can recommend the C&CC sites at Devizes for the Kennet & Avon. if you are independently minded, you can park overnight on the north side of the canal at the top of the Caen Hill flight. Payment at the tea shop.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I now have so many Canal bike trips to choose from. I will look into them all and decide which ones to do this year, and the rest in the future. I can’t wait to get back on my bike, thanks again.

We dismounted and walked over it, great with a canal boat going alongside you at the same pace.
Isn't that more correctly the Llangollen arm of the Shropshire union. It would be a great ride into Llangollen.
Correct peedee, we did just that cycled all the way to Llangollen, then went to the train station to do the ride on the steam train. A very nice man there let us put our bikes in the office and he looked after them for us.

There is Bridge House Marina near Garstang It's a few years since we stayed there, but we enjoyed it. It's on the Lancaster Canal.
Also stayed at Overwater Marina CL mentioned up thread, last September. The towpath to Audlem and beyond is surfaced, but in the direction of Nantwich it's just a grassy path with some rough sections, so perhaps not suitable for cycling. We only cycled to Audlem and past, which is fine. The next day we were there it was that windy, we nearly got blown over walking around the CL, so didn't bother with the bikes. Didn't fancy a dip in the canal!
