Just checked it out on UK campsites and it is Wern Isaf.

Ooh, I'd completely forgotten that one. We stayed overnight a couple of years back and said we'd return for a longer stay.
Also the Tutor Patch site near Slimbridge which was mentioned earlier.
What a great thread - so many ideas for future trips!

Once again thanks to all you guys and gals for your suggestions. I noticed that many of the camps were C+CC campsites and I wonder if it might be an idea to join. Especially as they offer 65% off camp fees if you’re over 60. ( I would stay in the C+MC of course ) . Anyone know much about them, are they worth joining do you think?

Deleted User, Thanks for your response which is very helpful. Obviously it is difficult discussing another club on a club site we are members of but I don’t think it can do much harm. I have no intention of leaving this club but at the same time may use another if I need to.

I think you may be disappointed; the discount for over 60s is 30% if I remember correctly. Still a worthwhile saving though.
There are possible drawbacks to the C&CC which have already been mentioned (depending on how you look at it); a number of sites have a minimum booking period over weekends of either 2 or 3 nights, some sites even have 5 in high season, but there are only a few of them. And they charge a deposit for each site booked, which is non-refundable if cancelling within 30 days.
The best thing to do is to have a look at their website and sites, and possibly join for a year to try them out. We're in both too, as it gives us more choice, as well as both having the 5-van sites as well.

InaD,
I have copied this from the C+CC website —
Members benefit up to 30% off Club Site fees as well as exclusive offers throughout the year, and over 60’s get an additional 25% off.
Have I misread the above by adding it up to 55% ( I know I originally made it 65% silly me ) ? Perhaps there’s two ways of reading it.

Definitely more than 2 ways of reading it, JR. The 25% additional discount will be off the 70% of the original price which equates to a extra discount of 17.5% so the total discount would actually equate to 47.5% and you'd be very lucky to get that.
Still I think that it could well be a good idea to join provided you intend to use C&CC's sites on a regular basis. We were OAP members for a while but stopped when we found that we weren't using their sites often enough for it to economical being a member.

I think the "30%" off simply reflects that non members have to pay an extra pitch fee, just like non members on CAMC sites. It's a "discount" but not a saving as such.
Having said that I can certainly recommend the C&CC - we've used quite a few of their sites over the years - the pitches aren't always as big as most club pitches, but the sites themselves and facilities have been hugely improved recently.
Edit - not far from you, possibly, take a trip out to the site at Polstead to see what you could expect.

Two Cheshire C Ls, Swanley House near Nantwich is a very spacious lawned site with the Llangollen Canal within about 1/4 mile by road and visible from the site. Cheshire Oaks at Stoak Grange is adjacent to the Shropshire Union Canal and from there you can cycle to the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port or into Chester itself as mentioned in the reviews.

It's a rather vague (deliberately so?) way of describing the discount, I agree. As others have said, the 30% discount is the difference between what a member pays as opposed to a non-member, so that's the starting point for site fees for members. Then, if you're lucky (??) enough to be over 60 there is an additional discount of 25% (sorry, I thought it was 30%, which I quoted in my original post). So adding the 2 together isn't the true discount, although that's the way the C&CC would probably like it to read to entice more members. But that's the cynic in me

There's a new CL called The Willows near Nantwich too which has H/S & EHU and is not far from the Shropshire Union Canal. There's also a commercial site adjacent, here's the link.

Here's another CL in roughly the same area Greenacres at Norbury, Whitchurch.

Thanks again for all your valuable information and suggestions on both subjects, campsites by canals and the pros and cons of joining the C+CC. Perhaps they should have been separate threads but anyway it seemed to have worked out.
So having considered your responses, I will join the C+CC, whilst obviously staying in the C+MC. Also I now have a very good long list of lovely “camps by canals” to visit, I am so excited. We might bump into each other one day, not literally I hope, otherwise one of us could end up in the Canal !

This site is near the Leeds Liverpool not too far from Skipton.
It's a private site with a toilet block and hard-standings >>

The club site at Chester Fairoaks is close to the canal and the canal museum. Not tried the towpath, but if you are interested the wardens should be able to help.
The C&CC site at Wolverley near Kidderminster is just over the road from a canal with a pub at its side and the lock to watch the boats go through. Plenty of tow path for walking and cycling.

Interesting to see this thread re-emerge. We stayed at Wolverley C&CC just a week ago on the journey north. It has the benefit, for us, of allowing us to miss the worst of the M5/M6 nightmare. The pub next door is OK for a drink watching the canal but I wouldn't recommend the food too highly!
There is another pub in the village though, the Queens Head just near the very prominent church.
