Pricing in the directory and online

Thankyou but shall we try to get through 2019 first?

Maybe so David, but I would be more perfectly aware of how much a club site costs if those costs were displayed in an open and honest manner on each club site page in the Handbook as in previous years, rather than a vague "from" price and then having to go online every time I see a site in the handbook that might appeal to me to find out what it will cost.

You do know the price at the point of booking, though. You won’t turn up at reception and get a nasty surprise.
Check out the maze that is C&CC’s pricing ‘structure’ if you want to see a real puzzle.

Would I be right in thinking that when you book a site you do so online? If that is the case all the pricing information is there to see. The problem with the Site Directory is that it covers a two year period so the prices will be out of date anyway halfway through the life of the directory anyway if not before if there are further interim increases as there have been this year. There would be a good case for not having any price in the directory. There is also another issue if more prices are included in the directory as it becomes more labour intensive to edit the next directory rather than just changing one price per site.

Its nothing to do with semantics and all to do with the facts. The facts are that all pricing information is available on the Club website, nothing is hidden so no one is being ripped off.

It may not be hidden in the pure sense but the latest developments seem to have been devised to ensure that the price is not readily evident.

I wonder how many use the phone for booking these days. We did the other day, as we were booking for that night on route. Otherwise I would use the internet, as I suspect would the majority. When you put your party size and dates in you get a price, which you either accept or decline. There is no pressure to buy. Unlike some other sites, thinking particularly of booking a ferry, it is quick to do. I honestly can't see the point of detailed prices in a 2 year handbook, when prices are being updated yearly, or even more frequently.

Quoting a one person and pitch fee is really a waste of time as the numbers of members it apples is probably minimal .
A much more honest pricing system would be to show the price for 2 adults and pitch quoting from ’X’ to ‘Y’ The “from” price being the lowest possible and the “to”price being the highest possible.

I wonder how far away we are from having no paper site directory? OK probably not in the next couple of years but within five years I am sure it will be being discussed. Perhaps initially the directory will be on a request only basis before being done away with completely. If or when that happens we will have no choice to use online.

David it would appear that you think that everyone uses the internet to look at and book site when that is certainly not the case. There are plenty of members who rely on the site directory for price information, opening dates and site directions. The web site is certainly not the be all and end all, as you seem to think that it is!!

You may well be, but there are certain members who rely totally on the site directory, and require the pricing information before booking.

I'm sorry Nellie but I fear you are part of a decreasing minority. However, I feel the club cater fairly for this minority, as it states clearly in the pricing section of the handbook that a copy of the pricing can be requested, and will then be sent out. Personally I think it would be very wasteful to send it to everyone, as the majority will not require it.
For myself, I have saved a copy of the PDF to iBooks, this is then available to use offline if required.

Its interesting to see how others plan their trips...... book v. internet etc.
Sites for all our trips away are done in advance on a PC at home. We pick an area or region, then choose sites from all providers within that area to pick the most suitable sites for us depending on facilities, price, reviews and location..
The club maps live in the van but I can't remember ever using either of them, and the only time we ever look at either handbook ( also in the van ) is for the last leg of the journey if we happen to be going to a club site.

We work a little like you Justus. We plan a route at home. Our route typically covers 600 miles and for planning I use the CC map as a base. The map stays at home and the Sites Book is to hand for final approach. CC bookings are done on line as are any C&CC bookings. Commercials are usually by phone.

Whilst I accept that a few might not use the internet they will be outnumbered many, many times by those that do. I think we also have to accept that the future will be the internet for such things not paper books. As far as inclusion of full price information in the sites directory would be complete folly to me as it could be out of date in six months. Better that people that require that off line pricing information send for the separate pricing information booklet and not have any pricing in the directory. I appreciate that you spend a lot more time away in your caravan than many of us, so access to the internet will not always be available but unfortunately in life things are designed for the benefit of the many and it becomes more difficult to satisfy the few that want to stay with more traditional ways of doing things.

I suspect it’s not only those who ‘want’ to stay with more traditional ways but, by necessity, some do not always have an alternative.
The mobile data network in this country has improved tremendously in recent years but there are still rural black spots where it is impossible to get a 3G/4G signal. People touring and deciding only a couple of days ahead on their next destination can be severely hindered by having neither full paper records, nor an internet connection.
Publish the prices separately if it makes sense to do so but please send every member a copy as a matter of course.
Btw, I’ve not yet received my sites directory.

There have been several threads about waste lately TW. Personally I feel sending these out to every member would be a complete waste of resources, as many would never be used. I am quite happy with the electronic copy, which is available to download and therefore used offline.
Perhaps an opt in could be added to the profile, they would then only be sent to those who want them.
Edit. Just to add it could require sending out two a year, if we keep getting these top up price corrections in future. So even more reason to only send out to those that require them.
