Reserving pitches
Having booked on Baltic Wharf for January I decided to read the site reports.
One in particular caught my eye. It was from a member describing how when he entered the site after booking in he noticed someone standing in the middle of a vacant pitch he fancied. The lady came across to him and said he couldn't pitch there as she had reserved the pitch. We all know pitches can't be reserved so it seems from the report that this woman was the partner from a caravan not yet booked in who had left the outfit walked onto site and decided she wanted that pitch. I have noticed this before on a few occasions in the past when there has been a queue to book in that the passenger has left the outfit, walked on and chosen a pitch.
This begs the question, would you ignore her and pitch there given that Baltic Wharf being small and always busy may not have had another pitch you liked.

Get her one of these signs and save her standing around till her friends arrive.

This practice happens at Chatsworth club site, I would ask the lady to stand aside because I’m reversing in and a twin axle caravan is heavy and might hurt if placed on ones foot.

Remind her that, as you've already booked in, you have the first preference so she needs to move out of your way to safety while you pitch up and, under no circumstances can she stand there and 'reserve' a pitch. I'd also pop back in to inform the site staff before her OH leaves the reception.
They'll probably glare at you for the entire time that you're on site but who cares about people like that.

I suppose one of the problems with Baltic Wharf is that being a small site its likely there is only one warden couple and they have to concentrate on booking people in because of the road outside so no time to police what might be happening. I don't know how many reviews Harry looked at but it fortunately seemed an isolated incident. Its a shame that there seems so much to stress about arriving on a Club site! Pitches reserved by wardens ( for disabled visitors) usually have a cone or sign on and I think that would have been my approach by just saying there is no indication on the pitch that it is reserved and maybe I need to clarify the situation with the warden. At that point back tracking would come into play!

If the other half of the couple is ahead of you in the office queue they will no doubt get the pitch they want by doing this, with Baltic Wharf everyone goes round in turn. But it's mean spirited and selfish.
If they are behind you in the queue, you should be able to tell the person not to block your access to the pitch, a stressful start to a holiday. Does it happen very often? Hopefully not.

I'd be wary it wasn't a motorhomer who had already checked in and was now filling up with water. If not then I would like to think I would follow JJs advice. Fortunately I have never had that experience, perhaps becuase invariably we arrive well after opening time. If I have checked in and selected a pitch but was actually at the service point you would either find my car on the pitch or a sign indicating a motorhome was using the pitch.

Just tell the "person " that that is the pitch you are going to use,and do not stand behind your outfit as you will be reversing on to that pitch
On one site we followed a member (motor caravan)who had already booked in (two staff booking in)and they stopped in front of us at a pitch then drove drove past the pitch, which we thought would be ok for us ,so we started to reverse on when a lady came running over to us to say they had chosen said pitch but they needed to fill up with water(oh dear)
and another time we went on a pitch ,and then told the office staff ,who said a M/caravan,was there (OH no its not!!)

The same sought of thing happens in busy self service restaurants! We live in a selfish world where manners have no place.!

I have seen this happen also, if I was really, really, really, wanted that pitch then having ascertained they had not got the pitch fob thing then I would have it, I would think an outfit on the pitch counts for more than a person

Turned up today at a caravan club site found a pitch only too be told by a lady on next pitch that it was taken I looked at pitch marker and saw a hook up cable wound up so said thanks for pointing that out I’d missed that ! So off I went on too another pitch ,, only later about half an hour later another caravan manoeuvred on too pitch as I was walking past I pointed out hook up cable and said that it was taken too be told ok there’s no plague any I walked on mentioned too warden about the people pitching any way it transpires the couple were saving the pitch for friends with a fake hook up cable
