The 2019/20 sites directory and map has just arrived.  As I decide to belong to 'both' clubs It gives me a chance to personally compare what each club  offers . Specifically with this particular Caravan & Motorhome Club directory I find  it is much easier to use than the other (C&CC Club) in fact  (They have  much more complex pricing entries than ours)  So regarding that particular item I don't mind saying that our club has essentially got it about as right as they can with this item !

But Ooop's (and this is I accept is rather a minor point in the scheme of things and probably I realise may not matter in the slightest to a large number of members)  The winner of the 2018 photography competition has their really excellent  photo on the front cover of the 2019/20 Guide and Map described as showing   'Lupins'. Unfortunately the flowers are definately not Lupins but more likely to actually be 'Delphiniums'.

Yes, the Lupins are Delphiniums or Larkspurs, just be glad no one called them daffodils...(photo editors beware, know your flora and fauna! wink)

But I did like the photo. smile

Now that the Site directory is out can we now request the paper edition of the site price list?

I would have thought the price lists would have been enclosed with the site directory.

Price list not included. Can be downloaded, all 40 pages. Will not be printing them out. Used to be at the bottom of the page for each site. Not anymore. At first glance I thought the prices had been reduced by a significant amount, but then realised "price from" is "pitch & 1 adult" instead of "pitch & 2 adults" .

Perhaps we should phone up to make a booking and then decline it as too expensive, request an alternative and decline that too. After a half dozen sites, they may think its a good idea to provide price lists.

Yet some sites, affiliated ones, do quote the price for pitch + 2 adults.  In the case of Royal Vale, a bit eye-watering at "From £28".  If that's the cheapest rate what's the most expensive?

Just answered my own question: it's £28 all year, except for Bank Holidays, which has a minimum 3 night booking at £105.  So at £28 not too bad I suppose, includes free WiFi.  Don't think i'll be booking though, looking at the photos it's not the sort of site that appeals to me, looks a bit stark and open for my liking.

Not lupins as I know them. If delphiniums, then apparently part of the buttercup family, as is Larkspur.  Lupins are the Fabaceae family.

Open my site directory fresh from dropping through the letter box and 50% of the pages fell out . Must have not glued properly . Sellotaped them , but its a mess! Also noticed that virtually every site in there has been awarded 5 stars , unless its affiliated...they only get 4 ! 🙄 . And where did Braemar go? Did i miss that closing ? Probably . Anyway the self awarded 5 stars amused me ....it just reads a little incongruous that EVERY site gets maximum 5 stars .

Braemar returned to commercial ownership/operation a couple of years ago, maybe more.

The new map shows Club Site 55 - "Minnows", near junction 27 of the M5 motorway. However there's no mention of it in the New Directory. I believe they've left the site network for 2019 but can't see any mention of this fact in the Directory. It's a pity as it's very convenient for the M5 and there was an attractive write up in the previous Directory.

Yes, Minnows has left the network.

I suppose there’s no mention in the new directory because that is a list of current sites rather than of those no longer on board. Why it’s on the map is anyone's guess.

You could try Cadeside or Hurn Lane instead if you want a club site. (Others are available.)

Braemar was in the caravan club site directory that just finished 2017/18 . We stayed less than two years ago . It must have just disappeared in the last year . Glad its still going as a site though. Great for skiing .

They probably have had the site map printed for ages, well before the owners of The Minnows decided that they were no longer going to be part of the CC's network.

Just a point on the name of the flowers. Unless I have this wrong it was the taker of the photograph that named them as Lupins not the Club? I suspect the Club took them at their word when publishing which would be very easy to do if you were not that familiar garden flowers. There is also the aspect of whether you edit a contribution?

If I was printing something for a club magazine I'd have checked up on what the sender/taker of the photo told me .....

2018 has been a tumultuous year for the Club (and indeed the UK).

And this is the final straw.

Somebody has labelled the b***** flowers wrong.......!

It does look as though the photo went through unchecked both from the prize winner and the directory editor. If it had been a mis-named place or site I expect many more would notice.

In the scheme of things it's not important but it is a front cover.

Did you know that fields of Larkspur are grown as natural confetti? It reminds me of similar photos, I like the fact that a natural photo has been chosen. smile

It was a lovely picture taken from near the Southport campsite. I very much doubt the publications department have any expertise in gardening or should be expected to have any. It is a bit of a storm in a window box in my view!

At least the image is within the UK and even of the correct site. I count that a success for CC
