I am on my first ever New Year to a club site, Moreton in Marsh. I'm just wondering what if anything goes off.

What ever happens is usually down to how pro active the on site staff want to be

I think it also depends on what facilities are there, I recall that Troutbeck head, with it's large games & information room, had a mini 'party' at midnight

Harry, when we've been there a small marquee went up for some on site celebrations. I think it depends on the wardens so if you give them a call you night hear more. Have a good time. smile

I agree that the obvious thing is to phone the site and ask.

I wonder why Harry didn't think of doing so instead of asking here!

Perhaps a hog roast, a live band, dancing, a big fireworks display and a free bar.... but on the other hand perhaps not. But do please tell us about it when you are back, Harry.

I expect some haven't tried a club site over the New Year but they do vary, some are quiet others offer a bit more. We've had very quiet New Years with friends on sites, we've also had drinks and mince pies at reception, the option of gatherings in a marquee, food, fireworks and dancing at Hillhead. Anyone thinking of going can either join in, go to local celebrations or just do their own thing. Have a good time one and all. smile

In the past Southport have had drinks and nibbles in Reception but, with changes of site staff, this could also change from year to year.

We're off to Meathop Fell this time but I have no idea of what, if anything, will occur.  Will play it by ear but have our own drinkies and nibbles in the van if nothing on site.

Because I thought, like a lot of people who use this forum, that different forms of advice would be good to hear. ie peoples experiences. Also it may have produced a reply from someone who is going.

Seemed a reasonable question to ask Harry

Well Harry, you have had some comments about some experiences at some sites in the past but as yet nothing about what is planned for Moreton this year!

Other people have also said what happens on sites depends on the wardens (so presumably they are the people to ask).

Best wishes for an enjoyable time whether or not you find out in advance what is going to happen!

you could always organise some festivities for yourselves and ask others to join in. perhaps invite the wardens as well as they will have been working all through the festive break

Sites with indoor facilities - common room, club house, bar and restaurant - can offer so much more of a party atmosphere. . There are a few Club sites like that but not many -  but commercial sites with indoor space are more common.

One example offering a NewYear party is Caradon Camping Touring Park down here in Cornwall. Pitch price £17.50 including EHU and wi fI. New Year Party price £15 to include homecooked  buffet, music and fireworks  - and a bar open of course.

I know, some members would hate it, but it might be livelier than most Club sites on New Year's Eve. .

    Hi

We worked a new year one season when the Looe site was open all year. We did that "wine and nibbles " thing on Christmas eve and News years eve. Every camper came along and we all wedged in reception. It was great fun and people actually remembered the art of conversation. It was only a couple of drinks but the camaraderie was brilliant.

I do not feel the need to travel for a celebration on New Year's Eve surrounded by strangers, but each to his own

Yes, each to his own, on the whole visiting sites throughout the year you're unlikely to find anything other than strangers on sites. But at the New Year, people actually talk to each other at these little gatherings. smile

Site has 171 hard standing pitches and booking page says it is full just before New Year - so  342 visitors nibbling nibbles in the office ? Can't this Club do better than that?

I can understand that, some people will feel alone at this time of year for   Several reasons and going away will meet other members in the same position, and enjoy each other's company imbibed by the Xmas spirit.🍷🍷

We used to meet up with friends but have been on our own to sites over New Year, every visit has been different on the various sites, For us it was just the chance of a break and there is a nice atmosphere on many of the sites with vans and pitches lit up with festive lights etc. So if anyone is thinking about trying it I'd say give it a go. You can also go if you just want some time to yourselves, there's no forced joining in. If the reception is offering drinks etc it's usually open house so not everyone turns up at the same time. It doesn't happen on all sites so if you are expecting something ring first to check.

And also a big thank you to the wardens who decide to make these events into a more sociable occasion. Happy Christmas and New Year to you all! smile
