Well its to hoped that their negotiating skills are better than the Government procurement departments. The body I worked for always came in with contracts far higher than we could procure but we had to go with the Government procured system. yell

I won't hold my breath though.

The risk with that is that it would be counter productive because if people had to take on board that because of a limited power ampage they would need more gas quite a few, I suspect, would decide that Autumn/Winter/Spring caravanning and motorhoming would not be as attractive which would then become a vicious circle in that occupation rates would likely fall. The whole premise of modern UK caravanning and motorhoming has been built of the supply of 16 amp electricity on site. I suspect people would prefer to pay more than have to look for supplementary power sources.

The answer to you question gazza would seem to be yes. See 1 below, taken from the info the club supplied in its email link.

I assume if you add a day to your booking after 5/12 you would then pay the new rates on the full booking. See 2 below. So perhaps worth considering.

Some of the email is written as though it was not meant to be sent until after 5/12. Items 3 - 5. I have checked the current prices on the web site and those I have booked have certainly not been updated yet as item 5 implies.

    1. We made every effort  to predict costs accurately, however during 2018 it has become apparent that the operating costs for 2019 are now expected to be higher than originally forecast. Therefore to cover the rising price of utilities and the day to day costs of running a network of 160 UK Club sites, we are required to apply a small increase to the current 2019 prices.
    2. What happens if I need to amend my booking after the price increase? If your original dates booked stay the same, you will pay the original price quoted for any bookings prior to 5 Dec 2018.
    3. On 5 Dec 2018 the prices for 2019 were updated on the website and in our systems. However, the price you pay will be discounted to the original price at check in.
    4. Will there be a price guide for 2019?
    5. Yes, there will be a 2019 price guide available in the new year. You can already find 2019 prices on each site details page on the website.

The Club are aware of the increase in use of electricity on site and especially are aware of the potential increase in the number of folk who might need to use electricity to charge cars etc.  Eventually the Club are aware that it will need to make adjustments to accommodate increasing use of electricity, but at present are monitoring the situation.  I'm certainly no expert, but apparently there are different charging systems and connection points - what turns out to the 'the standard' could depend on which way the Club goes...... remember VHS and BetaMax!

    Thank you David.

In 2008 the Club's Head of Sites said, "We are very aware our our environmental responsibilities",  and "I know from an environmental point of view we should probably meter electricity, but I think there would probably be uproar..."

So the Club is still thinking that membership uproar trumps its environmental responsibility .

‘Environmental responsibilities’ no one, not Governments nor individuals take those seriously. If they did we’d be back in the Stone Age.

Same here Steve; a booking for Bolton Abbey shows the same price as the prices on the website for those dates.  As you say, I also thought the email had been sent prematurely, or possibly, was drafted, then someone had the bright idea to entice members to book before the 5th of December, and it was sent out earlier than initially intended.  Who knows?  I noticed this in the blurb: On 5 Dec 2018 the prices for 2019 were updated on the website and in our systems.  I read that yesterday, which was the 27th of November surprised

Say what you like about Teachers I’d not work at the chalk face for twice their remuneration. Further to that if I thought it such a cushy number back in the day I’d maybe have gone for it👍🏻

A bit slow on the uptake there, Michael,  the answer had already been given. And well done them, thoroughly deserved I say, can't think why I ever have the job up - oh yes, come to think of it, it was the whacking huge pension which meant I can now holiday when I want, where I want and no matter what the price! tongue-outlaughinginnocentsurprised

So no need for me to "book soon" to bring us nicely back on thread! wink

Methinks the increase is to provide funding for electricity meters.

We haven't received the e-mail yet but have just received the magazine showing the increase in membership.  The Caravan Club is now just a money making concern and they don't care about members any more.  Caravaning is now an expensive hobby.  I feel sorry for families, it must cost a fortune when you have to pay for a couple of children or more plus the cost of buying the caravan in the first place, especially as they have to pay for peak periods due to school holidays.

Why are we paying a membership fee when the site fees are no cheaper then commercial sites?

I suspect that this marketing drive is a consequence of falling bookings as people are starting to vote with their wallets.

Indeed that is very late and certainly goes against one's basic right to a work life balance!, In all of the schools I 'pop into' for pocket money the latest finishing time is 3.05, the one yesterday had a 2.30 finish (but first lesson was at 8.25)
