Overnight campers' action

I’ve lost the plot? 😯
That's out of order, Rufs. Take a look at the OP for someone who’s blowing things out of all proportion. 🥺

Wow!!! 2 very defensive posts from 2 of the senior key board warriors..DD i would have quoted it accurately if i could have found it easily, but this has dragged on for so long i really cannot be bothered to track back, but you know that is roughly what you implied if it was you, perhaps you could remind me.

Defensive? I see them as correcting someone who definitely deserves the title he attributes to others.
The art of debate is somewhat lacking in certain ill thought out posts.

That’s 8 year old news Rufs. It solved the problem, which was a true problem, immediately. MHs can still park up in daytime at either Marazion or Longrock, but they no longer overnight there. It was a true case of visitors taking advantage of something for nothing, to the detriment of not only local inhabitants, but also other visitors to area. Families with small children unable to access some of routes onto beach, dog walkers having to walk dogs out into road into oncoming traffic, you couldnt get between some of the vans they were so close. A bit more than a single camper van copping a late night stopover in a none residential area. Ironically, the area has dozens of lovely campsites as well, from very cheap, to all mod cons, so no excuse really.

tks yes i clocked the date, I have spent some time in Cornwall & Devon but try to go out of season as i know both can be a nightmare during peak season. I just wondered what the old guy did with his unmentionables if he was there for 2 weeks

you would be more than welcome, check out the Penguin or Bluebird greasy spoons for fab full english, oh! and Lee Tandori for a brill evening curry, pubs not great in the area, ship inn is about as good as it gets. Be sure to park to the west of town, lined out parking area on sea side of road, so you dont hinder traffic flow. Watch for the occasional OAP who will give you grief if you make too much noise

Well, from observation of some of the said MHs down the years, ablutions such as a daily wash of person involved the sea, or occasionally the loos and showers further down in Longrock car park. Some appeared to resemble bits of old leather anyway, could have been rust, could have been dirt, hard to say. Clothed in barely more than a tight pair of grubby shorts in most cases, so laundry not much hassle. I guess the loo waste went down the loos, but it is a guess. Having encountered lots of German visitors on another beach not too far away, with nothing on but a sort of metal ring affair (think last chicken in the shop,) we didn’t bat an eyelid at most of these. Let’s just say Cornwall has “clamped down” on certain types of tourist in the area, and nowadays one is less likely to meet something resembling a set of worn out bagpipes strutting down the beach!

yes, DD, I shall also be trundling to Southdowns in a couple of weeks and have thus been very interested too....
looks ideal

the Exmouth 'solution' seems very sensible to me....
some designated parking/overnighting, realistic time limit to allow folk to explore in plenty of time
notwithstanding fresh/grey/black water provision, it's pretty much as any town aire in France would work...
i don't think it needs vast investment to convert half a dozen spaces in a town car park, the system to check tickets, etc is generally already in place...
should please residents and visiting vanners....

i don't think it needs vast investment to convert half a dozen spaces in a town car park, the system to check tickets, etc is generally already in place... Sorry you are not getting it, not in my area, and this is one of the issues i outlined much much earlier, we have free parking which we cherish, if the LC were to introduce machines for MH'ers then they might just see a case for charging everybody. Gosport is different most of their car parks are fee paying and we do have an overlap in Lee on the Solent between Gosport LC and Fareham LC.

I am in favour of charging, charging for all. Set aside spaces for caravanners, motorhomers and cars, I shall have to put pen to paper as the council are losing out on income they can ill afford to lose, obviously the locals want something for nothing, no give but just take with no sharing, shame on them and Mr Ruffs Scrooge.

Unless an area is struggling to attract visitors all parking in all areas should be restricted by hours or charged for as many hours (per hour) including overnight for the stay and that is for all vehicles and as is now being implemented more often blue badge holders

You seemed to stutter there, Rufs.

This is getting good now.
Popcorn, anyone? 😀

You’ll know the beach Tinny, St Ives Bay. Lots of sand dunes between rail track and the beach. A stroll through the dunes was a real eye opener in the Summer. Naked men everywhere, they would “pop up” unexpectedly from behind grassy tussocks. Never a problem for us, we sent the Airedale’s in first, cue lots of swearing and a mad dash for clothes. We used to call them poppers, not true naturists, a bit different if you get my drift. Occasionally one would strut down the beach, not a stitch on, but once the cold water hit they weren’t quite so full of themselves. We did get one who wanted his photo taking with our dogs. Probably made that month’s Centre spread!
You would get the odd camper van down at Dynamite Quay when you could still park down there, overlooking those cabins in the dunes across the river. But it was never taken over, just the odd one or two.

I wouldn't object to a 'cars free, MH overnight £X' policy...
im more than happy to pay the going rate to overnight in my van...yes, I mainly use free Parkings but to be in (say) exmouth (which we like) for a couple of nights and we'd happily pay a sensible rate.
perhaps Rufs (and his towns folk) could keep their free parking yet still accommodate paying MHs, in tandem...
having said that, this is totally the opposite to many of the car parks 'over there'....(of course)... where charging (for all vehicles) is levied during the daytime where spaces are in demand, and then charges are relaxed after (say)7pm through to 9am when there's virtually no one around..

Obviously on the defensive again as no constructive comment to make, I dont know what makes some MH'ers think they have the right to park just about anywhere and dictate what local policy should be in a local area for which they contribute nothing. Oh sorry as I think somebody else referred to "you have been reading the glossy brochures re living the good life in your expensive castles on wheels" but now you are finding the good life more and more difficult to find, unless you pay, which some of you seem very reluctant to do.
