I think most people on here have taken the post to silly extremes, if you read it, my point was, why has the club spent all our money on refurbishment, and been let down by incompetent contractors who presumably surveyed the site, put all the 'correct' equipment in and got it so wrong, and then the club is losing more money, I hope they havn't paid them the retention fee yet. as they are the clubs national main contractors for sites, how many other problems might show up on other sites and then have to play the waiting game.
I was merely asking for an explanation concerning our wasted money from poor work and lost revenue.

Garry, interesting that the underfloor heating is not working. I have just read that Tewkesbury, recently refurbished also have problems with their heating! However, you have not stated whether there is alternative space heating also fitted. It would seem not at Tewkesbury. We are paying millions for this work and it’s disappointing to read these reports.

In my opinion you’re making a mountain out of a molehill which is probably why posters have not taken it seriously. I’m a bit puzzled as to why you chose to post on an open forum rather than contact the club and get the answer directly from those in the know.
With the best will in the world and correct equipment and workmanship, things still go wrong. To call the contractors incompetent and say they got it wrong when you have no idea what caused the problems is jumping the gun and not on. You are prejudging the issue. The cause could be due to many things including the club possibly insisting on inadequate or inferior parts being used. I’m saying that only as an example to demonstrate that blame may not lie with the contractors.
I’m not sure we are actually entitled to, or need, an explanation but let’s see what Rowena comes back with.

I'm not talking about shoddy workmanship, that's unforgivable but 'snagging' lists seem to be ever present these days. Buy a new caravan or house and you will be very lucky to escape them. Have major works on the fabric of your business premises or IT systems and those snagging list quite often follow in my experience. Particularly when such builds are not always as simple, straightforward and 'uniform' as we would want them to be. Could do without the associated issues but with the ever growing complexity of our requirements, specifications and expectations, coupled with the advancing pace of new technologies needed to meet these needs and along come those novel challenges we call snags. Unfortunately they are a fact of life and probably, in a way, help drive the advancement of our understanding and the technologies of tomorrow. We just need to work through them together. What appears to us to be just a common everyday plumbing or electrical works like all those of yesteryear may not be as straight forward as we believe. Take a reflective step and look at that very first caravan your parents owned and that new one on the drive today. It's been a long haul to get where we are today and the process has not been without pain or challenge. We live in interesting times and times of rapid change, expect even more snags along the way!

a lot of today's issues are a result of the 80/20 rule...
in many environments, it takes 20% of the effort (cost) to deliver 80% of any project successfully.
for contractors, delivering the last 20% now looks like another 'rule'...the law of diminishing returns...having to continue to input a large resourse (upto 80%) when the project is 'nearly finished'....
and this is where the customer starts to see the mettle of those they have employed.
finishing off the job (properly) is what sorts the wheat from the chaff.
im sure the club's contractors aren't skimping when they get near the finishing post, but placing something on the back burner (snagging list) is the easy way to 'deal' with thorny (costly) issues....
accurate, sensible sign off points will no doubt have been employed to complete agreed stages.
what we don't know is, was the heated floor working and has now failed or was it signed off in a non working state....
the thing is, it's too easy to get the customer to 'complete the final testing' usually after it's been handed over....just read the 'caravans' section of CT and other forums...
some snagging lists defy belief.....the roll out of this forum for example.

It could be just that the site upgrade, which included a new facilities block, just didn't include an upgrade to the electricity supply. It may not have needed it in normal conditions but cannot manage to meet the demand in a cold snap hence the need to look at the loading.

Yes, some become hysterical when the umbilical cord is cut, all these self contained tourers relying on mains power suffering cold turkey at Xmas, would be fun to watch.😜

Whereas the hair shirt Bear Grylls types are content cooking a 4 course Crimbo extravaganza for 10 over an old recycled bean can & a candle stub. The meat being hunted down & despatched using only an old toothpick😂😂😂😂😂😛

We only eat vegetarian roadkill Rocky. Tatties, onions, carrots. Cooks quicker over a candle stub.........Cornwall is a very good source, and Cotswolds.

my old toothpick broke, so I got a new one for this year.....
we visited a site this week where the organisation's core business isn't touring (though it is becoming much more widely used) and the shower/toilet facilities were terrific.
touch control taps, showers oversized with loads of room and, yes, lovely, fully working heated floors.
the 'family' bathrooms really did have a bath.....and a shower, toilet, sink, bidet....
i guess this is the sort of thing the club is seeing as the standard these days?
whilst 'clean' is laudable.....a bit of modernity wouldn't go amiss

We used a CL last year with a couple of wet rooms similar to those BB, in Shropshire. No bidets, but very plush and modern. Extra charge to use them, but very nice. The site had 10 seasonal pitches as well as 5 serviced CL pitches. Good diversification, seasonal pitches were all taken, very well looked after. Nice friendly site.

A new game in CT, site top thrump.
The site I'm on has just had a complete new toilet blocks refurbishment. Total new layout with lovely tiling and walling.
It has a baby & toddler washroom, then a family bathroom ( with bath ). The wash basins are more private and the showers are large with a pre room for changing. Also two separate disabled facilities and a huge laundry room.
Each to their own preferences but in almost 20 years of caravaning I have never thought about wanting a bidet on a site.
Guess the club does modernity too?

No tooth pick but can really live well without the need for electric if it diconnected, electric is a bonus not a necessity for many, heaven forbid a power cut at sites over Xmas the turkey will not be the only one stuffed.

the pictures were to show that all sites don't have to have that 'club corporate (dull) look'....which you obviously appreciate.
however, i know which I prefer...

Unfortunately the outage was caused by an electrical fault in the area that also affected some local houses as well as the site. The electricity board were contacted at 2.30 in the afternoon by the site staff, when they were aware the power had gone off. The site staff remained in contact with the electricity company and also our electrical contractors, working with them to get the power restored as soon as possible. The majority of the power was restored by 8pm on Saturday and the toilet block was opened by 9.30pm.
Due to the topography of the site, water has to be pumped to the toilet block to feed both showers and toilets, hence the reason these were out of action during the power outage time. This also caused a further fault with the underfloor heating system that we were originally unable to diagnose.
As a precaution we reduced the occupancy of the site for the final weekend to ensure that members would not be affected until the electric company confirmed that it had all been fixed and checked.
A meeting with our contractor has been scheduled to go through all the ‘snagging items’ that we have encountered since the site opened in August and these works will be carried out over the winter.

Anyone who reads my posts knows that I both tour abroad and also in the UK, staying on all sorts of sites.
It never ceases to amaze me how predictable these threads become, as if abroad is Nirvanaland or CMC sites brook no complaints. Neither is true.
Some of the sites we havd used abroad and independent ones here should be a template for future CMC sites. There again some sites have been poor, with us basically using our own facilities. CMC sites have a consistency but a lot of sites are looking dated. I fully understand why some of them cannot be improved but let's not pretend that they are all the Bees Knees.
With regard to Buxton site, we had the pleasure of staying there in early September and were very impressed (see review). We used this site extensively in the 1990s and it was fine but the facility block was dated. I was sorry to read about the problems but it doesn't seem restricted to the site itself.
All in all the club, IMO, need to spend more on upgrading sanitary blocks as showering in very small cubicles with an old fashioned shower curtain is not acceptable.
Some CLs that provide such facilities are great, others less so.
Nothing is ever black and white. It would be nice to follow a thread such as this for once without the usual bickering. I'm sure I'm not the only "regular" CT user who is becoming disillusioned with the way these debates deteriorate.

Was advised today when useing the "member hospital visit parking" at our local site (hospital next door) that it is to be a service point only site from early Jan until April 2019 as some essential work to be carried out on the facilities block but not an "upgrade" as the lease runs out in a few years

Sounds like Commons Wood at Welwyn Garden City site which is right next to a hospital?
