I have booked my ferry crossing to france, going for the first time with the caravan to Normandy, and i am wondering if anyone can recommend any small sites near Honfleur, would like to stay there for 2 nights  and between Arromanches and Port en Bessin for our main stay of about ten days.

Thanks

Haven't got my overseas book to hand as we're away in the van but we used a site near Port au Bessin a few years ago. I seem to recall it was called Reine Mathilde or something similar. Working from memory it used to have litches with small hedges marking the area.

Nice walking on the cliffs above "Bessin".

Would agree with the site AD mentions. Also for your second area, we stayed at a site called Reine Mathilde at a small village called Étréham NW of Bayeux. Although it doesn't score high in the ratings we enjoyed it there. The site has everything we needed the only downside was the shower block was a little dated. However the location was very central for the WW11 areas for history. The site owner speaks English so well you would not realise she was French and she was very obliging in helping you with French. All in all a site I would use again.

Both sites accept the ACSI discount card at €17 out of season

Another possibility for the Arromanches area is the municipal site at Bayeux a little way inland -  details for that one too are in your ACSI book and it is also priced at €17 (£15) outside the main summer season.  But will you really stay there  for ten days and not move on to see other places?  I hope it all goes well.

Hi, we've had several wonderful holidays in Normandy. We stayed at Chateau Martragny near Bayeux and that was nice and in a good location for Bayeux and all the beaches. If we went to Normandy for a full holiday we would probably use Port'Land. It's in the CC club brochure and that seems to be very nice and in an excellent location, quite near to Arromanches. Don't stay at Riva Bella for longer than a night. That site is minutes from the Ouistreham port and we use it every year for an overnight entering France and before we return home - very convenient. The pitches are small and there are lots of migrants near the entrance. The migrants have not been a problem, but if we were staying in the area for longer than one night, we'd want a much bigger and nicer pitch than this site affords. Hope this helps.

Yes David we used that site as well. Very handy for the pretty small town. Not used it since it stopped being Municipal. A lot of municipals are being lost in France, mainly, I think, due to a change in the way a lot of users including French are "caravanning" these days, ie with Motorhomes. You see more lodges and statics as well.

We stayed for a couple of nights at the Municipal at Bayeux. A pleasant stroll into the town to see the tapestry plus there's an Aldi across the road to stock up with provisions. A reasonable site although I'm not sure I'd want to use it and a base for a long stay due to traffic noise.

Yet another possibility is Camping Le Picard - which appeals to many people with limited French language skills because it has British owners - and also offers 20% discount on Brittany Ferries fares.  Details and reviews are worth reading, but there are just so many good campsites to choose from.

Many thanks for all your information, very much appreciated. We have been touring with our caravan for 30 years but this will be our first foray abroad. We have been to the Normandy WW11 areas by coach and enjoyed being in that area so thought this would be an opportunity to stay a bit longer, and in our own "home".

There's a municipal at Honfleur which looked nice when we strolled round it a couple of years ago but we haven't stayed there.

We went a couple of years ago and stayed here https://www.campingfrance.com/uk/find-your-campsite/normandy/calvados/asnelles/camp-municipal-quintefeuille.   5 mins from the beach and a good location for visiting all the relelvant sites.    We also looked at the municipal in Arromanches which was a contender.

We've booked again to go to the Somme next time and are now looking for site recommendations around Albert etc - good luck with your search and have a lovely holiday.

One drawback of Chateau Martragny campsite is that it closes for the winter at the end of August.  Very strange, isn't it .

We have visited this site couple of times. Its lovely and quiet and is very convenient for cycling into Honfleur. Good little swimming pool and lovely staff too. We will definitely return for a longer stay.

We were going there this summer but changed our itinerary slightly at the last minute. Looks like we missed a good site.

We stayed at Camping du Phare several years ago which is ideally placed for a short walk into the centre of Honfleur.   It did need some TLC then, but a review on UK Campsites mentions a facelift, so it may be worth taking a look.
