A stroll around Strathclyde Loch, woodlands to explore, nature watching, cycling or a trip into the city of Glasgow - if you could recommend one thing to do when visiting Strathclyde Country Park Club Site, what would it be?

Using  Strathclyde  as  the  first  stop  on  a  Scottish  tour,  I  amble  up  to  the  loch  &  sit  and  just  gently  unwind  by  watching  the  wild  life,  mainly  slow  moving  ducks  &  the occasional  fish  rising.  So  very  calming  after  fighting  the  M6 / M74  smile

That must be good, as the bus transport from the village is bordering on non-existant, and those that do go all the way to Glasgow come back so early that you could pass yourself on the way.

Best idea is to drive your vehicle along the M74 motorway to the Shields Road Park and Ride for the underground and use that to take you into the congested bit.

Strathclyde park Caravan Site is well placed as an overnight stop off or to enjoy some retail therapy in Glasgow ---- Just one slight drawback. The site is situated adjacent to the busy roundabout linking the M74 motorway and the  A725 dual carriageway. Road noise is almost constant, so ear plugs could be needed --OR -- turn off your hearing aid. ----The park it'self is extensive and there are plenty of trails for walking and biking.

That's the first thing that came to my mind EARPLUGS, we stayed on the site just once so we could visit the Glasgow show without the long trail from where we live. Wouldn't do it again due to the constant road noise.

Stayed there a few years ago. I was not keen on its location with regard to the highway network. I shall not use the site again. We drove to a nearby railway station P&R to access Glasgow

I suspect that you and our two Scottish correspondents above you have missed the whole point of the site....?

Its USP is it's location immediately adjacent to the motorway.....

After the long haul up the M6/M74, pull in here, get a cheap meal from across the road, into bed, up early to beat the traffic and out past the airport, over the Erskine Bridge and into the real Scotland up the west coast.

Would I want to stay here for anything longer than a night halt on the trek north - no.  Do I want to shop in Glasgow - not at all, that's what the internet is for........

Personally I wish the club would open a few more superbly located  "night halts" for those of us weary motorway travellers......

It's in an interesting area with quite a bit to see eg New Lanark or the David Livingstone centre and of course Glasgow has some excellent museums, entertainment venues and good shops. There's always the Clyde to explore too. I've spent quite a bit of time visiting the area when my OH worked close to the site but after a long journey I would have to go elsewhere for some overnight peace and quiet.

Nope, I've not missed the point at all......... for us. For us there is no point. We have no need for night halts as when we go into Scotland every few years we are usually away from 45 to 50+ nights using 9 or 10 sites at least. We stop at a location that we wish to be not at one we don't wish to be to use it simply as a stepping stone.

Those who stayed on the site tonight would have had a great view of the huge firework display in the middle of the loch.

We're on the site tonight ( pitch 67) and we've heard a few thumps and crackles but nothing to get excited about. The site is near  the motorway but you just have to tune out the backgroud noise. Cath is purring away inher bed as i type .

Something I can only dream of I'm afraid ET.   The most time I can ever take off work is a week.  So it's a night halt on the way up, 5 nights on the coast and a night halt in the lakes somewhere on the return journey.

Perhaps my time will come one day.......wink

We use Strathclyde Park CC on a regular basis as its only 35 miles from home so handy for weekends. The site is in a great location and there are some good cycle routes nearby as well as plenty of musuems ect. If you have kids the theme park is only a 5 min walk from the site. There is noise from the motorway but we have honestly not found it too bad and it seems to have got better as the trees have grown.

The soundproofing from the trees must be better than some folk are claiming!

Loved this site. Stayed here on 2 different occasions on our 2 week tour of Scotland. Visited The Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel. Would definitely stay here again, excellent wardens and assistant wardens

Use the site regularly as close to home.

Noise is not an issue if you choose your pitch carefully.

    Very well looked after.

Current wardens Andy and Sam are stars, work like Trojans and always with a smile.

Shall we say it's a marmite site? A bit like Tredegar which is so close to the M4, some can blot out the noise others can't (that includes me...wink) But Strathclyde is a good base for that part of Scotland. we used to take our children to the swimming pool at Motherwell, I think it's now Aquatec. See the video clip.

I was very critical of this site when it first opened due to the noise. However, in hindsight I think it was due to the ongoing changes to the motorway network, now that the roadworks are complete it is much better. Okay, you still hear the background noise of traffic but just on par with the likes of Durham Grange etc. I think perhaps the trees and other vegetation which has sprung up have made a difference as well. The facilities are great and one final bonus is the trafiic lights at the roundabout when you leave the site is now fully operational which gives you easy exit onto the motorway network.

Wardens are a credit to the site, friendly, helpful and keep the site looking in tip top shape....thank you!

Our last visit was 2 nights on the 11th Nov 18

Living in West Lothian I was never tempted to hitch up and make the short  25 minute journey to the Strathclyde Campsite.  But we do go to the park itself to take part in leisure pursuits.

Despite what some are saying, I always find the road noise from the M74 and A725 to be very obtrusive  and would find the Continuous noise nuisance on the campsite a bit of a put off.

The campsite is well presented and laid out, as is the attached huge storage yard.  It is also handy for visiting Glasgow for those who enjoy retail therapy.

    smile

Noise is something you can either put up with or not.

We live in a very quiet village with little traffic noise so when we are away on sites we are more aware of noises like traffic, trains, planes and things like aircon units humming away.

We were recently on a site in France that was or should have been very tranquil, however in the background was machinery noise from a farm, something to do with drying the seed crop. On speaking to our neighbour we were advised that it did go on all night and had done so during their time there. We had planned to stay for 4 nights but left the next morning due to the constant noise.

We don't go on holiday to put up with noise so avoid noisy sites at all costs.
