Using caravans for base when working
I can understand people who are working away from home using their caravans for a base. But. We are on a Club Site and our neighbour and near neighbours are obviously using their vans as a base whilst working. Our neighbour walks a dog, packs a van, bangs doors, runs the engine and leaves around 06:30am each morning returning late in the evening. Our near neighbour leaves in the evening and returns early in the morning. Do you think this is OK or should the Club keep places for leisure only? It’s half term and the site was full.

How do you know they are working ?
It may be only short term anyway and if it doesn't affect people what is the problem.

Poor guy needs sympathy not criticism.

Interesting, I agree they are members and pay the same for a pitch. Amazed how quickly people comment, that's good in my opinion. My last comment, perhaps a little more consideration for others, several have taken prime spots on this site and they are away over 12 hours each day. And perhaps if they are returning in the early hours or leaving very early they could leave their vehicles, vans, small trucks ec. in the car park.

Leaving at 06.30am and making a noise IS a problem, perhaps a word with the Warden, he probably doesnt even realise he is annoying you or waking you up.
Agree, car or van should be left in the car park for early departures or late arrivals....then no-one would even know.
Otherwise not a problem.

I don’t see a problem other than possibly the early morning noise and we’ve heard many a moan about other campers doing that whether they be holidaymakers or workers.
As for what’s a prime pitch, that’s subjective and your prime may be my pits. No one can stay longer than 21 days so they won’t be there for long and, as has been said, they’re as entitled as anyone else to choose whatever pitches they want and to come and go as they please. What is the difference between your neighbour going to work for the day and you going out for a full day’s sightseeing? They both result in an unoccupied van for the day.

when we moved from Scotland to Hampshire some 9 years ago, we had no house to move into so used club sites for approx 3 months, i was working and used the rear of caravan as an office, i did work that meant sometimes i was working through the night, we always tried to use a pitch that was out of the way, only had 1 complaint, because i finished work at 0530 hrs and then took the dog for a walk, always one.

Workers on sites have been part of the scene for quite a few years, the near and London sites are quite popular in this respect and most appreciate the "problems"that early deps can cause and you will find that the site car parks (if available)are used by them and on some sites the exit barriers are timed to open later to "encourage "car park use

If it was me, instead of taking to a keyboard and writing about what is I agree a tad early in the morning for door slamming, I would try and say hello, and in the course of a friendly conversation perhaps suggest he might like to get away with a bit less noise. We were pitched up next to someone very obviously working each day but we never heard a thing all week. We did see a very tired looking man come home from a long day at work one or two evenings. This was at Warwick.
It’s easy to slip into a routine and forget how noise carries sometimes, and in this day and age some working people are actually living on the streets, so your neighbour has at least found a solution to a problem, like a good few others. He’s just a bit insensitive to how much noise he is making.
Its the dog that would concern me. I hope it goes with him, rather than spending hours alone if he is working a full day.
Never having suffered pitch envy I cannot comment on what makes a prime pitch.
Failing wanting to do any of the above, I would just move pitch or go elsewhere, and get on with my holiday.
I hope things improve for you, no one deserves a bad holiday.

As far as the bloke leaving in the evening and returning in the morning is concerned, he may not be working, he could be staying overnight with a Girlfriend or Boyfriend.
It wouldn't bother me if a neighbour left site at 06.30. as I'm an early riser anyway. but in all fairness to those who like a lie-in, it might be better for him to leave his vehicle overnight in the car park.

Some Club Sites are lovely, but possibly a tad remote for anyone to work from. We have been on CLs with people working from them, never had any problem. Doesn’t bother us, folks using a bit of imagination.

That was my first thought too when I read that, TTDA. If the person concerned leaves at 6.30am and doesn't return until "late in the evening" (quoted from OP), then that is too long for a dog to be left on it's own.

When on Brighton site a couple of years ago there were some working folk who pitched on one of the tiered areas. They were never a problem to me and it was only because I was up early each morning that I knew they were around. There was another worker pitch close to me who worked afternoons and evenings, again no problem. If I were in the same situation I would do the same except I would use CL’s

I stayed on a site recently where there were a number of people going off very early each day and making no attempt to keep the noise down - door slamming, engine revving etc. I spoke to the warden about this and was told that he (the warden) hadn't noticed anything, but admitted that he was pitched in a quiet corner!! He then just said that "that's what people are like these days, no consideration". No offer to speak to the offenders or perhaps put up notices asking the early leavers to keep the noise down. Needless to say I don't think I'll be returning to this site, and will probably check the vehicle movement policy for any site I consider booking in the future.

We were on a CL last year when the chap in the next van rose early 6,45ish and then started is car and left it running for nearly ten mins each morning before he set off to work. After a couple of days I asked that he desisted in doing that and from the next day set off immediately after stating his car. He did however refuse to even say hi after that....his loss not mine!

But not everyone leaving site early is working. If I’m solo, in the summer , I’m often up and out before 7am for a spot of bird watching. I try not to disturb others but I’m sure there will always be someone upset when the engine starts

I'm with TTDA on concern for a dog left for hours, assuming it wasn't taken to work. As for leaving site at 6.30a.m I didn't realise that was possible, I thought vehicle movement wasn't allowed between 7a.m and 11p.m, or am I thinking of the C&CC, who lock their barriers outside those hours. Anyway, my OH has gone to work from a site but the car was always left outside in the LA parking so as not to disturb other caravanners, including me. But why after 8 years of retirement he still wakes up at 5.30 every morning beats me, however, he holds life too precious to try and engage me in a conversation at that hour, lol.
