Hi all, I'm hoping to buy a caravan asap, i have just bought a car to tow it, tow bar, number plate, mirrors etc, but before i buy the caravan i need to find somewhere to store it. We are moving house to somerset next year so it would be nice to have it stored there so that we have a base to search from. my problem is finding somewhere to store the caravan, i have contacted a few storage facilities but they seem to be fully booked. i realise now that being winter people have put their caravans into storage buy i'm hoping there is someone out there that can point me in the the right direction. by the way we intend to keep the caravan once we have found the right property with the intention of touring around the west country....and beyond!                                                                                                                                         Thanks Dennis

Hello Dennis, I've put some info here LINK on another thread for you. This was for Southfork Caravan Site which does storage, there is also West Down Orchard Caravan Park nearby. Both sites are a few minutes from the A303 and have easy access to Yeovil. Good luck with your plans. smile

do you where in Somerset you will be living...surely this will influence where you store it....?

for example, I live in central Somerset but the thought of collecting a van from (say) Minehead just wouldn't work, especially if I wanted to go eastwards....

perhaps your new property might have somewhere you could keep it there?

we have our MH at home and couldn't contemplate having it parked somewhere else.

our pals live only 3 miles from us and have their van (MH) stored only a mile from home, but having witness the logistical nightmare of getting set up to go away compared to us...no chance.

ok, it might be a little easier with a caravan but IMHO you can't beat having your van close to hand for ease of loading/unloading.

of course. it may also depend whether you 'lay up' for winter....even then, why pay someone else for not using it?

    good luck.

On the storage thread the OP has stated Yeovil as the possible area. A new poster who's first post became visible before it had been officially moderated has now asked about storage and it's probably the lay out of this web site that has made it a bit difficult to post in the right section. smile

Hi all, thanks for your replies, especially from brue smile I think someone mentioned that i should have posted in the storage section of this site, as this was my first post i'm sure you won't hang me for it wink We hope to base ourselves near Yeovil or south of Yeovil. In the meantime i shall start looking at the kind suggestions from brue.

Thanks for replying Boonster, there is also Preston Storage in Yeovil itself, another one for the list if places are full. smile

Several nice CLs, have a look at ones near the River Parrett or near the Cokers.  The Southfork Caravan site near Martock is very nice, small and rural, have a look at their advert. Also Thorney Lakes LINK. There are others, can't think of them all just now. It's a good area for several National Trust houses and gardens, there are four locally and the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Ham Hill Country Park etc. Easy to get down to the  coast at West Bay and Lyme Regis, a central base for various places. Hope you manage a visit! smile

The Caravan and Motorhome Club have storage at the Cadeside site at Wellington just very close to the M5.

The Ilminster (Chard) site also does storage. That’s not too far from Yeovil for the OP.

I suspect it’ll be difficult to find storage space on a club site, though.

Another option near Chard is Forton House CL which I'm pretty sure had storage pitches available. (Also highly recommended as a CL to stay on!) smile

Only if it's not been raining or when they've not 7 or more vans on site!!

They do have caravan storage though, Boonster.
