Cherbourg Ferry to France

Thinking of the Poole to Cherbourg ferry next year.

The evening crossing arrives Poole 21.45. Any recommended sites near Poole where we could arrive late?

    Sorry, can't help with sites at that time of night, but many people would stay overnight in the ferry port area, as they do when departing. The caravan parking area is signposted after you leave the ship.

    as David says, we regularly use this crossing and stay on the dock prior to the morning departure.

    however, as we live within 90 mins of the port, we just drive straight home after the 9:30 arrival.

    DD is this the Poole port, or Cherburg, have got early ferry 2nd April next year, was thinking of stopping overnight at south lychett manor, only live approx 90 mins from ferry port but dearture is at 0830 hrs so would be early start, South Lychett Manor is a good site and quite close to port

    Stayed on the docks at Poole when outbound, coffee and bacon butties about 0630hrs, spot on.  Dock is quiet and never felt nervous parking there. Never stayed returning to the UK.

    thanks Oneputt, would seem to be the way to go, no problems returning, ferry early PM, and am planning to spend 2-4 days in Cherbourg so we can get the dog sorted. Returning last week in June so should not be a problem.

    cheers DD, looking forward to Poole- Cherbourg, did Portsmouth - Santander last time, very expensive, and conditions not too good for dog. Poole-Cherbourg, we can put him in the boot and he will sleep for 5 hours.

    No have checked with Brittany Ferries, on this particular crossing you have no alternative but to leave dogs in car, they assured me car deck is well ventilated and we can leave windows open so no problems. They carry hundreds of dogs on this crossing.

    i agree, we also live 90mins from Poole but to stay at SLM would still mean having to get up and make the trip to the dock, no point when you can be there anyway....it takes no more time to drive to the port than to SLM...

    Port it is then, although SLM is great site, have done a couple of rugby tournaments in Poole and used the site as it is 5 mins drive to the venue. tks the info folks

    We regularly use Poole Cherbourg crossing. Get to the port at at about 7.0pm. Legs down. Usually in lane 11.Then supper and bed! 

    Brittany Ferry staff wake us at about 6.00am. Then forward and on to the ferry.

    On our way home, we come off the ferry and again park in the Brittany area, over by the wire fence, facing the wrong way for the ferry.

    Then up in the morning and leave for home at about 9.0am.

    Wow!!! better facilities at Poole port than you get on a club site, showers, fresh water, waste water disposal and a wake up call with bacon butties available, but where is the EHU, only joking, sure we can manage on battery for 1 night.
