Another magazine; another error
In the November magazine wardens at Meathop Fell recommend visiting "the museum to Laurel and Hardy in Barrow".
The museum to Laurel and Hardy is in Ulverston, Stan Laurel's birthplace.
I have e-mailed the magazine but I don't know if a correction will be printed. There was a major error in September's magazine about the walking time from Chatsworth Club site to Bakewell. I sent an e-mail and had a reply but there has been no correction in subsequent magazines.
I appreciate that mistakes are made and previously there were corrections made in magazines but this policy seems to have ended.
Of course, if there is a new museum to Laurel and Hardy in Barrow then I hope that someone will inform me.

I have also noted the very poor "proof reading?"if any, that is done? before it goes to print ,and the latest survey seems to be pointing towards the club trying find a way of cutting costs? and the Mag being on its death throes, not helped by some posters binning it without opening the packing

The problem with trying to make corrections to a monthly magazine is that its likely to be two months before it appears in the magazine so probably a bit pointless as by then most will have recycled their magazine where the original error appeared. By all means let the editorial team know about issues but I expect it is not reasonable to expect a correct so long after the event. After all its not the Guardian

Surely, it isn't about correcting it after the event, but in making sure that articles are correct in the first instance.
It's a simple 'google' to make sure that facts are correct - in this instance that the Laurel and Hardy museum is where it is stated to be. Though we're no longer members and don't receive the magazine, I remember some real 'gaffs' in the magazines we used to read.

+1 and the club wouldn't continually beg for money
I'm with Valda on this. Instead of paying lots of money to have someone produce these travel articles why not ask members who live in the area for their tips. Not only would accuracy increase but you would probably find real hidden gems

ValDa. Though I appreciate that you have a "lot" of knowledge in relation to caravanning etc. and offer good tips, I am at a loss that you are not a current member. After all isn't this forum for the actual members of C&MH club ? Are there others out there that contribute but not members?

There are quite a lot of contributors who are not members, Navig. You’ve never noticed, then?
Most contribute in a good way and add value to the forum.

A few weeks ago a member of the CMC onsite- staff posted about the subject of the forum and non- CMC members , in reply to my post.
A short excerpt is :-"Thing is K, next year when the forum becomes subscription only to non members.
.You read it here first".
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Members of the CMC on-site staff will obviously have information to which we the forum members have no access. No doubt you will probably have to wait to next year for clarification.

Are you sure you weren't being wound up on this issue. The only person on this forum that can speak with any authority as to the future of this forum is Rowena or other members of the Media team. As far as I am concerned that has not been the case so I would treat comments by others with caution?

As he well knows, K was being played at his own game. Take no notice.
What’s the well used phrase - don’t feed the trolls? 😁

Thank you David. If that post had come from an ordinary forum member I would have automatically suspected it to be a windup. ---- But coming from a Member of the CMC staff, I would have expected that they would be professional in their attitude and would be honest and truthful.

I've just had a reply from Stephen Hollis (Digital Magazine Executive)who comments that the inaccuracy came from the site at Meathop Fell so "was not checked as thoroughly as the rest of the article".He continues "Unfortunately next month's magazine is at a very advanced state in production so it will not be possible to add a correction". He further states that they will "endeavour to check locations/facts even more thoroughly in the future".

Hi dunelm,
Thank you for your feedback which I have forwarded to the Editor of the Club magazine. As you have pointed out the museum is actually in Ulverston and we are very sorry for the misinformation.
We are trying to include more advice from members in the Club magazine and there have been comments and photos from Club Together members featured.
There are no plans to exclude non-members from the forum.

Thanks Rowena.
If you want to read complete ignorance of some locations in the UK, I can recommend the Guardian. We stopped buying this a couple of years ago, as my OH was blowing too many gaskets at the obvious mistakes. We had even less faith in the other Nationals, so now we get Yorkshire Post, but only on a Saturday!

This forum is open to members and non-members. We aren't members because we store our caravan in France, so don't need access to UK sites, CL's, cheap ferry crossings, site vouchers, and we aren't eligible for C&MC insurance products so we save our membership fee. However, there's no guarantee that we won't return to membership at some date in the future.
I am still interested in what goes on on this forum........ having previously been a 'Champion' in the initial years of this forum, when we were members. Champions were to encourage others to post, by starting interesting topics......... and then some of them became moderators when it was obvious that not everyone was interested in 'forum-harmony' or sticking to the terms and conditions.
We've experience of hosting a tour for the C&MC for first-timers in France, we've been caravanning for more than thirty years, and so I think I can offer valid contributions, albeit from a (currently)) non-members point of view but with many years of membership behind us.7
