GPL (LPG) on the Algarve.
Hi, everyone. First time I have used this forum after a number of years of membership. We normally over-winter on the east coast of Spain where I have had no problems finding refill stations for my Gaslow cylinders. This year we are booked in to a site on the Algarve, Camping Ria Formosa to be exact, near Tavira. Can anyone let me know about a local refill station there.
Thanks for your help.

Yeh, cheers, Diver. Last week it showed a place near Tavira. This week it has disappeared. I am starting to think that the Gaslow is a bit of a pest when camping away from the madding crowd. We are not wild campers but sometimes stop in remote camp sites and struggle with supply. When I had my old Hobby I travelled with one Calor cylinder and one Spanish (when overwintering in Spain). That at least gave me a couple of weeks of gas then it was usually easy to find a Repsol station to exchange for a new one.
Thanks for the post.

agree with DD....a spare pigtail with a Jumbo connector will allow for easy fitment of a Spanish (Portuguese) bottle should the need arise.
i have one 11 kg Gaslow and the other 'space' can take a Repsol/Cepsa bottle...I have the Jumbo connector already fitted.
best of both worlds?

Hi
Not been too the Algarve for a couple of years but there used to be a GPL staion that did Autogas and fill any gas bottles at a place called Boliquieme just off the N125 near to Quarteria/Villamoura, you wont miss it there is an enormous sign along the road. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for the advice from fellow campers. I have two 11k Gaslow bottles with an external filler so fitting local pigtails doesn't really work, but thanks for the thought. It is many years since we have been to the Algarve, we lived on the outskirts of Quarteira but it was a dump then, we will have a ride up there and have a look now. I will look out for the Jumbo stores, I am getting very safety minded as I get older and, having lived in the outback of Spain, have seen some very dodgy practices in local gas refill sheds.
Thanks again to you all. PeterTat.

There are quite a few LPG (GPL) stations on or near the N125. We filled up at the BP station on the Tavira side of Monte Gordo without any problem earlier this year.
That said, if you're staying anywhere for a period of time just ask the other guys on site, someone will know the nearest as many folk who over-winter in Portugal use refillable tanks.

I too would recommend myLPG.eu as I am a regular contributor to the site with updates covering my area in Spain.
I have added three new sites this week.
The number of filling points has rocketed in recent times and now in this area, getting it is not a problem. When I first moved here the only place was the Repsol factory near Alicante airport.Which has now been bulldozed.
I have used LPG in my cars since the 1970s and used to do conversions. My Jeep, is of course, on gas,
Final suggestion, if you are on the N332 near Alicante and need a fill go to Pola Gas at Santa Pola. It is only 59 cents/litre. Repsol are around the 70 cents/lit mark. Take the CV865 dir. Elche and its about 1km. The signs are impossible to miss. It's the cheapest around here.

Oh yes they are although in my defence I was rushing my OH to Elche hospital so was somewhat distracted.
