A welcoming arrival does it matter?

Our early days with Club were trying. Mainly because we had a rather unconventional outfit, which usually had to be demonstrated before acceptance was fully granted. And we were on the young side, with a Rottweiler on board. We accepted this with good grace though. And as it was just roll in back in those days, it was face to face from the start, so no pre warning of what might be arriving.
I do recall we were almost the catalyst for a disagreement between Warden and Assistant Warden one harrowing journeys end. Some twenty odd years ago a 12 hour slog from home to Yellowcraig in thick fog ended for us just beyond 8pm. We had done our best but couldn’t get there before, so it was consignment to the LNA area, which we didn’t mind, but the AW wanted to supervise us parking to a peg hidden somewhere in the mist. At which point the Warden arrived and was heard to mutter, just leave the poor so and so’s alone, they are exhausted, and the AW was hauled off before things got any worse. He was just a tad over enthusiastic at getting things perfect, probably still earning his stripes to go onto greater heights.

I think a welcoming arrival does matter. Several years ago we joined 'the other club' to give us a greater range of sites available to us. The very first 'other club' site that we visited the welcome was so bad that we never went to another of their sites and never renewed our membership.
On arrival the first words spoken to me were "Have you booked?". On confirming that we had we were promptly told that she (the lady warden) was too busy to see to us because she had to go and clean the toilets. We were told to find a pitch and go back to the office later.
The site was very uneven with lots of water filled hollows on many of the pitches but we found one that was reasonably flat but next to another outfit with a big awning. We got set up and settled down for a cuppa when we got a knock on the door. It was the warden. "You can't pitch where you are, you are too close to the outfit next to you. You'll have to move". I queried why as we were pitched as she had instructed. "Surely", I said," it is the other outfit that is incorrectly pitched, he should be the one to move". "Oh, he came whilst I wasn't on site and just set up where he wanted to". We did, very grudgingly, move as we hadn't got an awning up.
So yes, a pleasant welcome is important.

A warm welcome on arrival makes it easier for us or the wardens to raise any issues or questions that arise during the stay. It enables the warden to gauge the campers' experience and tailor any necessary information to them. It's also polite. When I was working, we had a tenet that we treat all visitors as though they were visiting our home.

A Hello when you enter the reception and a Thanks when you pay your money is all that's required. ----We want to get on with our vacation ---- who wants to keep the site staff from doing their work by standing chatting.? That's very inconsiderate of the customer.

we arrived (without booking) at one of our favourite French sites to discover that, even in the off season, it was full with pesky holidaymakers.
no worries. instead of encouraging us to go elsewhere, he suggested we stay in the large carpark....more like a rural French site than a car park..even insisted on rigging up an EHU cable although we didn't need it...
we stayed there for two nights...
of course, there was no charge and were were invited to make as much use as we liked of the pool, bar, restaurant etc....
as soon as there was space, we moved onto site, for a week or two.
also in France, on another well loved site, we ordered a take away chicken meal, but when I went to the restaurant to collect it, there had been a delay for some (now forgettable) reason....
my host was apologetic, invited me to the bar where we opened a bottle of wine and chatted and drank while waiting for my order...
cost him peanuts (went well with the wine) but had invested much...

Is this the thread for fairy-tales in a foreign land
Now I recall one when in the UK .............
We stayed at 'Sandringham' site and this posh car stopped and reversed to the peg on the adjacent pitch. It was the Queens chauffeur telling us his boss wanted to welcome us personally over a glass or two, would we like to join her. Not only that but during our chat on the sofa she said treat the gardens as your own and let your dog run free, thought that was nice of her 👍

Many years ago we turned up at the Chatsworth site (without caravan) as my in-laws were staying there and we were visiting as we lived nearby. I went to reception to ask what pitch they were on as we were visiting and was reprimanded with a "Don't you mean you are asking if you can visit them?" in a non too friendly manner!
I did contact HQ and complained vociferously and thankfully things have changed since. A warm welcome and good manners cost nothing.

Unbelievable or what!
certainly is...
i wonder what the problem is with folk recounting their experiences in line with the OP.
its such a shame that some don't seem to take things seriously

I took Metheven’s tale seriously, did you?

We stayed there many years ago but only the once, it was very close to the Auchen supermarket if I recall correctly. I Deleted User my review on Caravan Travels some time ago as it was supposedly closed but didn't delete if from the server and I still occasionally see that people have found the old link. It was rather like a large CL. Whilst Gabby was indeed a very friendly person the site and services were a bit quirky to say the least. They still have a website http://manoirdesenlecques.com/index.html

I phoned and booked Hurn Lane tonight at 4.55pm. Lovely cheerful lady on the phone, no need to rush, drive carefully, just ring bell on arrival. Came out to meet us, let us straight into site because it was cold and a bit wet here, apologised for price and said don’t rush off in the morning, plenty of spaces!
