"Its really a shame its going to turn into another over there v here thread however I guess it was a loaded question to start with "
Well I've been out all day, just come back in and took about 30 seconds to come to that conclusion, Michael, so I have to agree with you. And just in case it didn't get controversial there have been the predictable incursions along the way just to make sure that it does develop that way!

We were there 20th June for 5 nights, and chose a grass pitch where there was sun for OH plenty of open area behind and I was able to find shade under trees behind when we had a lazy afternoon. I had done a lot of walking on the previous few days and thought that I would give my hip a rest .

Not quite invited into the "bar for drinks"as you being a good regular patron of the "hello david" site ,but we have had drinks in two or three wardens "homes"on cc sites and on one when we were working which was and still is our bolthole, for us to be "advised" as others to find a pitch and pop back later

Actually thinking about it hotel staff over there have been a whole more variable than the good service over here on campsites and in hotels . I think it's is probably down to the package holiday thing, can't really go away and they know it?

Must mention the warm and welcoming wardens today, I was the only one but they said they'll keep the office open this evening till later and expect it to be busy once the 'half termers' start to arrive this evening and they expect a few queues so all the wardens will be helping out.

Although we don’t motorhome in this country very often, when we do it’s always at Club sites and we have found the reception to be very good. The last place we stayed at (a year ago) was the site near Corfe Castle and the Warden went out of his way to be helpful. In contrast, Cirencester Park for example is a bit more formal but it’s a large and busy site. Surely, if you are the type to become a warden you must like meeting people and helping them? Goes with the territory.
You notice the difference in France between a commercial site where the owners have a business to run and a municipal where they are paid to do the job (unless it is franchised) but generally speaking nowadays you get a warm welcome nearly everywhere both in the UK and Europe.

You know when you read trip adviser you get hundreds of positive reviews then there is one that really slags of the establishment My first thought, is aren't they unlucky, then it dawned on me that the writers are probably not very nice people in themselves.
Fact is I've never had a problem with Club Wardens, I have a lot of respect for their hard working, friendly attitude. I wonder if the folk that complain are the negative trip adviser authors

Fridays have nearly always been a "late" night for site staff, and with the computer system it cannot be closed down until all the arrivals and their pitch number have been entered so when noting staff walking the site "late" they will probably be looking for those, who when they dash off for a meal will then wonder how to get out/in the site as they have not been to advise the office where they have pitched up

I often think that this out of the ordinary occurance may be an instance when the negative reviewer didn't get their 'own' way or were given a different answer to a question that they wanted to hear.
In my working life some folk that appeared very friendly at first meeting quickly changed their demeanour when things didn't go their way despite me being as cheery and helpful as appropriately possible.
There's nowt so queer as folk!

Over the years I can only remember 2 sites which we had miserable reception staff.
1 was many years ago at Brora the male warden was a miserable git.
2 was a site in France, Chartes, again the male member of staff was a miserable git and the female was not much better.
We use both club sites in this country but the welcome and the happy site assistants at Salisbury C&CC site last week was very nice, friendly, funny and very helpful even when I gave them the wrong club card at book in
In France recently we phoned a site we had stayed on last year, to see if they had space, before we left the Provence. The site owner (Madam) asked if we had been before, we confirmed we had and gave our name. Madam looked us up on her computer and asked if we would like the same pitch as last year, Next one to it if possible said I (better Satellite signal) no problem said Madam I will keep it for you.
Does it make a difference? Oh yes it does.
We've met many nice friendly happy wardens and site owners/staff over the years, how they manage to stay so cheerful with some of the things they have to put up with is a credit to them, its not something I personally would fancy, though the nice long winter in Spain/Portugal is very appealing

however I have read vitriolic and untrue reviews posted by guests who were there at the same time and its possible we might have believed had we not known better.
How true that is David, on our last cruise (from hell) it was the other way round. Some of the reviews were unbelievably good you would have thought they were on a different ship.

AD , Sorry but I'm really confused .By your own admission you had been to Bladon Chains before .By your own admission the road was noisy before .Why the hell go back another time ? Unless purely for the reason to complain about it .If you want a better pitch arrive earlier .

I dealt with members of the public a lot in my employment as a highway engineer, public exhibitions, public inquiries, talking to groups and individuals who had concerns or simply explaining what we were doing. Acquiring land, agreeing accommodation works. Some started off prickly but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of that side of the job designing and supervising road schemes. I took calls at home when I was living on my own and schemes were ongoing, If I found the people I dealt with a pleasure how much more should it be enjoyable when folk are on holiday to enjoy themselves?

It's some of the filthy disgusting things that some folk do that I was referring to ET, that and some of the behaviour, bad manners and abuse that some wardens/site staff have to put up with.
I've worked in customer relations and some folk are just unbelievable.
Some see 'being on holiday' as a god given right to have the 'best' of everything even at the expense of others. Not all holiday makers are happy folk

Or the way they twist, misquote and even bully to get their own way! Thankfully the vast majority of us are reasonable, honest and friendly with each other. You only get one chance to make that first impression and after all, this is not a rehearsal we live in!

I work in a customer services environment and first impressions are extremely important. The problem with some wardens is that they are sticklers to the enormous amount of rules that the Club has and that sometimes makes them seem a bit “hard”. A nice welcoming “hello” is always good and a smile. If they’re on the telephone and there’s no one else to help a quick acknowledgment is good and a “sorry to keep you waiting” is a good sign.
What I don’t want to see is a sour faced bunch just going through the “business” bit, the usual “pitch this way” with the little Corgi model car and caravan on a bit of green plastic that I’ve heard umpteen times before.
