Arrival times. Even the club get it wrong!

meanwhile, back at the 'arrival times' thread.....

I know it sounds smug but I cannot get my mind around the concept of any site having an “arrival time”. Where we go you can turn up at anytime and if they have space they let you in. Quite common for us when touring to move down the road and arrive at 11.00 am to secure a nice pitch..... but then these are commercial sites run by owners who have their customers and thus their profit at heart.

... but why would they do that? It’s not like a hotel where the housekeeping have to make the beds and clean the room. Do the wardens nip out and cut the grass before the next arrival? Surely, if reception is open and manned and the pitch is available why not let people on. What am I missing?

and later departures time, so its usually arrive at 3pm, leave by 11am

but you appear to have missed the above posts, this is the norm on UK sites and the club actually has a better arrival/departure time than most other commercial sites, on most club sites it is arrive at noon, depart by noon, not arrive by 2/3pm and leave well before noon, 10/11 am which is common on non club sites. The other club btw has a one hour difference.

...or making a valid comparison with those who are happy to accommodate customers' desire for flexibility?
....of course, there is another way.....queue at 12 o clock out into the nearest A road?

We are on a commercial site next month(in this country)and the strict! arr is 1400hrs and deps by 1000hrs at that is well of peaki am on a commercial site now, they have an arrival time, but too late for me (the customer) so they said arrive when like, so we did, nice and early as they had space.
perhaps the club could offer a similar service?.....
i guess we could ring the site in the morning but staff would be on mowers or in the showers or whatever, wouldn't they?

At this time of year the club does in many cases, BB, but as I said earlier it relies on the good will of the wardens, rather like the site you're on at the moment then. There is nothing unique to club sites having a set earliest arrival time is there, it's common practice on virtually all UK Sites.

We got back recently from a hotel (somewhere in Europe) with an arrival time of 4pm. We arrived at noon and were given a voucher for a drink in the bar. As soon as the room was ready (about 1pm) we were allowed in.
Yes, I am stirring somewhat, but trying to make a point about customer focus and providing a service. Having a fixed departure time is fair enough if you are occupying a pitch that somebody else wants to have but a fixed arrival time is a habit from long ago where there was no customer service. I would hope that things have moved on and that there would be more flexibility. Nobody has yet provided a valid reason for the “rule” which clearly creates a lot frustration.

When I read the thread title I thought it was about arrival at club sites in the U.K. Of course I knew full well that some folk would immediately pitch in with how much better the system is over there. Typically though I haven’t heard the downside of the pretty much standard 3 hour lunch break closures usually from 12 to 3pm which, of course, can be very inconvenient

"A lot of frustration?"that is something that is just the "opinion?" of some on here, and as noted by several posts the majority of accommodation types have an arrival time in the UK,and overseas, but as has been found, the majority are flexible,if possible to be,and unless someone really "pushes their luck" it except for a very few very busy sites ,a conversation with sites direct can be very productive

...ah but when i phoned, the staff were available to take the call, not cleaning toilets or riding on mowers...

And when we use, mainly the Cotswolds sites and mainly in low season, if I phone I've always had an answer (on one occasion. at Cirencester I left a message and was called back within 15 minutes.) So there's no difference there.
BB - how about my other point though; you keep harping on as if this is uniquely a club "problem" whereas, as I suggested, it's pretty much universal on UK sites that there is an earliest arrival time?

I thought all your questions were rhetorical
'harping'? rather rude and insulting wouldn't you say?

If 1pm arrival makes it easier for the staff to run the Seacroft site it seems like a good idea, the OP only pointed out that the new arrival time hadn't been updated in March, lets hope it has now.
As far as I am concerned Brue a 1pm arrival should be avoided whenever possible.

are you implying that this would not happen on club sites?
Have you actually experienced this?
On the large majority of club sites the office is full staffed all day. Only on single set of wardens sites is the office closed during morning cleaning. The is the way the club works and keeps costs down. I would have thought as you keep on talking of reducing prices you would see that?
The office is never closed for grass cutting in all my visits, why should it be, one warden out, one warden in?
But I think you knew all that

At the risk of further inflaming this issue between the 'them' and 'us' brigades, I have observed that motorhomes appear to arrive quite late in the day having, presumably, visited places en-route. Is the preoccupation with the "best pitch" necessitating a prompt arrival something that is more prevalent among caravaners who then rail against set arrival times? If this is the case, the problem should diminish with the growing ratio of motorhomes.

This 'best pitch' is a bit of an urban myth, I think that caravans and MH arrive at 12 as that is when the site 'opens' and the holiday starts.
How do you that MH arrive later? I didn't have you down as just sitting in your van all day? How do you know that these 'late' arrivals did not arrive at 12, select a pitch then go shopping/off site?
