Beach sites NW Spain for families

We are travelling to Santander next August and I am searching for up to 2 lovely sites, ideally on / very close to a family friendly beach. It seems very difficult to find sites with good reviews or those that take advance bookings. We will have a 2.5 year old and a 9 year old so ideally looking for places up to a 4 hours drive from Santander.

Thanks for the tips....

I'm not sure where you're looking but there are lots of sites all along that northern Spanish coast which take advance bookings.  The problem may be that you're still a bit early to be booking for 2019 and sites may not yet have their websites set up with new prices and dates.

Try the search here - Campsites in Spain - scroll in and out on the map to see sites along that coast.   Or try the Eurocampings website (not Eurocamp the tent/mobile home tour operator).

Friends did northern Spain last year, and they found some very nice sites (but they were just a couple travelling outside peak season).

Thanks ValDa, I am thinking we will probably stay somewhere in the Basque Country so we can explore that coast and San Sebastian and then head over to the French coast also. I have looked on these sites but a fair few don't allow you to reserve at all and expect you to just turn up, which we can't do with young children. I will keep looking. Thanks for your help and pointers on the websites.

What's making you think they don't accept reservations?  I don't understand that bit.

    This one takes bookings:  https://www.playajoyel.com/en/

and I honestly can't imagine that so many of the other sites don't.  Most people who book in advance do so by email unless the site has a specific 'reservations' page (as the above does) but I've never heard of sites which specifically exclude pre-booking apart from very small French municipal sites.

Using the Eurocampings website - and the advanced search facility you can find sites where 'advanced booking in high season is recommended' and all of those will take reservations in advance.  I selected Cantabria, but you can select Asturias as well.

You can use the same search to locate sites in France where advanced booking is recommended, and therefore which accepts reservations.

Hi we have travelled many times to Northern Spain with our caravan and one site Ican thoroughly recommend is Camping Colombres at Noriega Asturias. We have stayed here Three times as it is ideal coming from or returning to the ferry. Last time it was late August so we booked but not until a couple of weeks beforehand and they had space for us. I don’t think you need to get to worked up abou booking to far in advance as this is Spain !,!  The reason why this site would be ideal for you is because it revolves around the children (check out their website) the owners speak good Englis and it is only two miles from the fabulous La Franca beach which is perfect for little ones with a river to play in if the sea is rough and with plenty of parking close by .

Hi, can recommend Playa Joyel at Noja.

Stayed there in 2016 and going back for a few days next year the reason being the beach-which is stunning!

When we were there, in June, it was almost empty. I would expect site to be very busy in August but if you book that’s not a problem.

    Hi there,

We actually have two new overseas sites in our network Bayona Playa (E49) and O Muino (E48). Both are family friendly on the Western Coast and are both bookable through the Club. I hope this helps. cool
