Charging electric vehicles on club pitches

Well it's coming, and fast, so in my opinion the CMC need to be addressing the issues raised by others here. Maybe install payable charging points in the car parks at the entrance to sites. Make it against the rules to charge a car from the pitch electric - quite easy for others to notice that a car is being charged - with a request to leave the site if these rules are broken. Otherwise all members will be paying for some others, either by higher charges or installing electric meters.

is it? as poisoning is illegal what are the police doing about it then?

DEBSC. Just a point, the electric supply to pitches is paid for by all users in their pitch fees. Avoiding exceeding the limit at present is the only criteria for anyone on a pitch, whether they're using equipment, heating an awning or charging a car. Some use very little electricity others probably run it to the limit. The club have already made a statement about this use. I presume if the club notices higher usage generally then changes or charges might be incurred but EV users will no doubt be pleased to see rapid chargers on site, presumably provided by a third party. At present only cars with a small EV battery set up can tow so their take up of extra electricity will be less than a full EV user. They will also have to adjust their usage of other van appliances to accommodate the charge.
When all full EVs can tow, (only Teslas can at present) then there will need to be some big upgrades on charging supplies on sites. But I suspect it's a long way off and it might be electric motorhomes that dominate the scene first?

Lucky for me I don’t have any grandchildren. (My largest donation to saving the planet) I would worry more about all the nuclear power stations that are going to be required to “fuel” all this extra electric consumption! And just how an intelligent being can consider changing a car every two years as saving the planet beggars belief!
Surely no one really believes that the powers that be are going to miss all that fuel duty that is creamed off at the pumps. I can see each home having to have a separate electric car charge point that is on a totally different tariff. Enjoy the savings while it’s there. It won’t last, that’s an absolute certainty.

Trust me MM, I have no maternal instincts whatsoever. And even less stress. Good with puppies and kittens though.......

You have every right to put forward a point of view OM, it’s a difficult subject. Nothing is simple in terms of trying to do the right thing, lots of complicated side issues, different ways of trying to do what’s best. I think all most of us can do at the moment, if we choose to, is try and protect our local environment. Which, if you think about it, is what the anti frackers are doing around Blackpool.

Were have I said I change my car every 2 years. However, some of the points made are valid we have been treated like mushrooms. First petrol cars are polluting the atmosphere, now it diesel and now the batteries on electric/hybrids, research tells you how bad they are, then new research shows the original research was wrong it just not pollution, but food, drugs etc.
The things is like the rest of is I due prefer my diesels, but I am going to see how the new Mitsubishi PHEV 2.4 performs over the next 12-18 months before making a decision .

Why do I need to turn the charger on with a solar panels and full led lightning, we only caravan late April to September.
Some of the research reports regarding electric vehicle batteries contradict each other.
Maybe we will all end up with solar panels and windturbines on our roofs.

The batteries in our BMW EV are guaranteed for eight years, after that they can be recycled into solar panels etc.
This is not a personal comment but I read a lot of mis-information on here, from people who dont run EVs or hybrids etc. I'm not sure why people who have not read up about EV production feel they are experts on the subject, I'm certainly not, but since owning an EV I have found the concept needs to be understood a lot more. I'm still learning, but so far, I am impressed with the technology and look forward to future developments.
PHEVS, BEVS and HEVS, all take some time to understand.

I beg you pardon OM, you're not changing your car after two years, but after three years. My mistake.

Tend to agree that 'metered supply' is the way to go, otherwise EHU cost will be a majority of a site fee.
With PHEVs, EVs AND the folk who use electric heaters to heat an empty awning.
Will be becoming more of an issue as time passes.
PS has anyone produced an Electric Motorhome Yet ?

I don`t know why everybody is getting excited about how cheap it is to charge an electric vehicle, you don`t seriously think it will last, just like the VED for clean vehicles didn't last .The Government (country) can`t lose the tax that is currently derived from fossil fuels.
The club will have to get its head around the idea that not all members will be happy to subsidise others driving.

yes why not? Those are the rules on club sites at the moment, open to all

I strongly be live if you are going to charge an electric vehicle (except my mobility scooter) you should pay the fair market cost, the companies around here charge 0.09 + vat a kWh.
Someone needs to design a plug in solar panel to trickle car these vehicle.
As regards VED and fuel duties well that anyone guess, however whatever the politicians decide we all in for a kicking what ever we do.

with respect why is your mobility scooter to be exempt? Do those that need these scooters get cheaper fuel for their cars?
