Sandy Balls going non Touring?

No touring not American touring, and motorhomes do not count, it is the touring vanners that are missing, I might add the motorhomes that drag a car along at a push but that's it. And I repeat people that tour with a caravan are a rare beast.

Seems I can be both an oddball and a rare beast. Perhaps it’s the same thing. 🤔
JV can insult us all he likes but you and I have got it sussed👍🏻

It isn’t defined in any way at all, Steve. We each have our own ideas and no single one of us writes ‘the definition of touring’.

Weird indeed, I have not read any insults.

What you do is touring, what Nellie does is touring, what TW and we do is touring. The amount of time spent in a single spot isn't that relevant, it's the fact that the outfit, whatever it may be, moves around from one location to another. You and Nellie are lucky enough to have weeks at a time away from home, and explore a variety of locations. We do it another way, based on shorter stays, but moving around. I call this linear touring. Any outfit be it a caravan or a MH, parked up for a lengthy duration, lets say two /three weeks, isn't technically, touring. The owners will be doing what I call a Hobbit holiday, there and back again, each day seeing something different but within a given radius of a base. They do of course overlap, some tour and hobbit!
Those who rely on public transport, cycling, walking or even a towed car, have more than likely just bought a huge MH and certainly in this country, are using it much like a caravan. Their choice of course, and only they will know the reason why. Lots of first time MH owners, or those who have switched from a big caravan, are looking to downsize. It's a compromise of comfort/living space v usability.
We have found doing tours of an area lovely. Our MH is small enough to park up in most town centres (with a bit of research), but our favourite places to park up are in remote parts of National Parks, AONBs, coastal roads, forests, NT/EH/HHA properties. We are often out on road early, and out all day as long as daylight hours, only arriving on a site to sleep somewhere legal and safe.

I consider what we do as touring......between 6 & 10 weeks at a time, stays of up to 7 nights, unless of course we get snowed in, booking the first half dozen sites or so and the others as we go along. From each site we like to walk, directly if possible, and visit NT, EH, and HHA properties, churches etc. There's also no need for us to go "over there" as there's plenty of great places in this country which we either haven't visited yet or love going back to.

Just a suggestion for anyone who likes the area and is disappointed the site is closing to tourers. Look out for some of the club rallies held in the New Forest as they are often in some very nice places. There are a few held in the Fordingbridge area each year and the other club hold THSs (Temporary holiday sites) which might suit some.

We're off on a tour soon. Will book Club Site morning we leave, Exeter Racecourse, bargain at under £15 per night! After that we are winging it, but this time of year it won't be a problem. Got a few places in mind we want to visit.
I can recall seeing an advert for Sandy Balls years ago when we started touring. Never been, but I do remember the hilarity the name caused at the time!

Then I guess we are rare beasts. We are just near the end of a 6 week tour of France, we are on our 9th site with 1 more to go. We did 4 sites in uk on on the way down to the ferry and will more than likely do the same or more on the way home.
We have gone back to a caravan after 6 years with a mh, our style of touring has always been the same makes no difference what the vehicle.
As long as we find things to do we are happy to linger, if not we move on.

yes, we've done THS at Gorse Farm a couple of times....and the CL Strawberry Farm Meadows (I think..) just up the road.

There are some really nice places in that area, we keep intending to do the rally at Breamore House. The New Forest has got so many other possible sites and they're in some beautiful spots. Maybe people will now explore these a bit more?
