27.5  hours  approx  since  I  got  my  65+  Anti Flu Jab and  all  seems  to  be  OK  excepting  a  pain  in  my  right  side.  That  is  my  own  fault,  of  course,  'cos  I  really  should  not  have  had  my  three  section  wallet  in  that  hip  pocket  -  no  real  contents  but  that  zip  fastener  does  remind  one  of  it's  presence  embarassed.

Well  that's  the  Public  Service  Info  disposed  of  so  now  it's  just  the  mundane Sunday  Stuff  --

Woke  to  a  beautiful  sunrise,  cold  for  the  time  of  year  but  it's  dry (  sorry  Tammygirl innocent ),  and  my  recently  refurbished  bird  table  seems  to  be  OK  so  I'll  be  checking  with  Mr  Neighbour  to  see  if  its  OK  to  start  feeding  the  Tweets  again  and,  if  he's  happy,  I'll  be  ordering  Seed  for  Wild  Birds  Various  once  more  smile.

Definitely nippy this morning. Church heating system chose this morning to go on the blink. That on top of the Lych Gate needing urgent repairs makes one realise that whilst Twelfth Century churches look nice, they are high on maintenance.

We've come down to Cornwall for a week. Luckily the weather today has been a big improvement on yesterday! Had a day down at Godrevy, seal spotting - including one very cute and very young pure white cub down on the beach - and a walk along the coast path to Hell's Mouth. A brilliantly clear day, you could see along the coast all the way north to Trevose Head near Padstow. smile

Frances - your walk around the walls at York brought back memories, because it was on those very walls, some 40+ years ago that I popped a very important question to Mrs M (or Miss H as she was then!) They've got a lot to answer for! surprised

I sympathise CY.  We have been told that the Cathedral heating won't be working for some time yet as most of the gurney heaters need major work done.  I think there will be a bulk buy of thermals by the congregation!!

Nice easy drive to our new CL for the next few nights, at Alkborough (sounds better than Scunthorpe). Set up and had a lovely stretch of the legs down to the Flats. Saw over 100 beautiful Avocets. Just listening to the Pink Feet Geese flying back out to the marshes. Autumn is super.

A very nice cosy CL and friendly owners to boot.

Ah, a city we know well. Are you at RP or BG? We had a first ever stay at RP earlier this year, it was roasting! Too hot to either leave dogs in MH, or drag them round with us, so apart from the evening event we had booked, our reason for going, we did a few things apart. OH walked the walls, I opted for a River Cruise. Hadn't done that since I was a child. I really enjoyed it, good commentary. My Dad was born in York, we visited regular as children. Railway Museum is fantastic, and free!

WN, enjoy Alkborough. The farm was heaving with newborn calves last time we were there, gorgeous little things. If you haven't been, Thornton Abbey Gatehouse (EH) is interesting, good place for a picnic.

Oddly enough, although that wasn't the question on that occasion, she did come with me to Bootham Crescent (do they still play there?) to see Rovers. It was her first football match - Rovers had 2 players sent off and it ended 0-0. I seem to have spent the past 40 odd years making up for that! surprised

Yes brue the Museum of the Moon is hanging from the central tower inside the Cathedral. It is huge and very impressive. I shall try to take some photos early on Tuesday morning.

After yesterday's rain today we had a fine sunny day. Went on a circular walk on Bodmin Moor taking in Showery Tor,  Rough Tor and Louden Hill. Then drove to Crowdy Res. for a further short walk. That was enough as my back still hurts following my tumble last week.

After a very wet Saturday we had a beautiful sunny day yesterday, although a very cold start.  It soon warmed up and we had a very productive afternoon in the garden.  The patio is now all clean and tidy with tender plants now in the greenhouse or conservatory Pots with annuals in were emptied  and spring bulbs planted in them. Patio brushed and cleaned.  All ship shape now for winter. We have had the most marvellous summer here and autumn is pretty good too with 23/24 degrees forecast here for Wednesday. laughing

Grandson is delighted with his guinea pigs and yes, Bakers2, I too hope he is ready for the responsibility of looking after them. We shall see.....

Take care of your back nth. Glad your trip is going well.

We have had a lovely day today. We drove up to Thornton Le Dale which is a village we always visit when we are in the area i like a walk around the classic car garage that is there and visit the car musuem well worth the £2 enterance fee. We then took a drive to Pickering for a walk around and had a nice pint in one of the local pubs. We picked up some sausage rolls from one of the local bakers so thats what we are having for dinner tonight. Glad I have brought some books with me as SWMBO had informed me that Corrie and Emmerdale are on tonight.

Perhaps you can watch other channels on your laptop, if you have a good WiFi connection and a pair of sound cancelling ,over the ear, phones.

Took a pal and his partner down the Brighton Rd in my V90 today to collect his newly purchased " Swift Kon-Tikki" On a 16 plate, tag axle, only 5000 miles on the clock,Fiat engine/auto.They seem to like it well enough ,but for me ,the light and plasticky internals design is not my taste ,too modern i feel. But then again so are the interiors of newer "Concorde's and "Morello's !! Each to their own i suppose .Maybe the Cherry veneer,Maple interior of my " Concorde" look's dated to some people ?? But i like the quality of real wood etc .undecided.

    Lolsmile

We lived in Bury when we got married and I  started going with a friend to Gigg Lane. Mrs WN decided to accompany us one day. We were about 15 minutes into the game when the Bury left back broke his leg in a tackle about 20 yards from where we were stood. The sound echoed around the near empty ground. I told her it was just one of those unfortunate things and I had only ever seen 1 other broken leg in all the years of watching.

So a fortnight later we all went again. 20 minutes in, the new replacement left back breaks his leg.surprised Bury FC paid her to stay away. They couldn't afford losing any more left backs!

    Both games ended 0-0!smile

Looks like you had a very busy and productive day yesterday, Millie, well done.

We're now into our 4th  week of this trip and have been very lucky with the weather, considering the time of year. After early drizzle we had a pleasant walk around Boscastle, up to the Coast guard lookout station on Willapark headland and to Penally Point. Then visited Hardy's church at Hennett before another walk above the coastal path towards Crackington Haven.

Glad the trip is going well, Nellie.

Had a day out at Far Ings reserve today. Great day. Saw a Sparrowhawk catch something, 2 Kingfishers, Bearded Tits, a Yellow Browed Warbler and a flying Bittern. It was a lovely but breezy day. Went for a stroll after lunch eastwards along the banks of the Humber.

Off to Burton Constable, as opposed to Constable Burton (also in Yorkshire, the cussed lot.smile), tomorrow. Mrs WN taking her painting stuff so it looks like a long day. Must remember to take a book to read. Strangely and coincidentally the book I've brought concerns the War of the Roses. Have to find some brown paper to cover it in.laughing

Misty damp start this morning for our drive up to Thegra in the Dordogne.  Weather cleared on the drive up and we arrived to sunshine smile

The site is getting prepared for closure, madam in clearing out the glamping tents and mobiles while monsieur  is driving round on his grass cutter collecting all the leaves.

The site has lots of Walnut trees so we have picked a good bag full smile not had fresh walnuts before, will keep the majority to dry out for later. Anyone any tips of how to store them.

Off to Rocamador and Padirac tomorrow, supposed to be a nice day, hope so.

A friend of mine dries out walnuts on thick sheets of newspaper in the sun on a deep windowsill, then stores them in dry baskets. be careful as they can stain everything they touch! They are lovely though, lucky you to have a few. smile

Don't know about storing them but we were at Perpetuum site near Domme last year. Site is full of walnut trees and Madame gave us a huge bagful of them when we left. Forgot about them until Christmas but they were fine, still in their brown paper bag. So maybe that's the answer. Domme worth a visit.

They last for ages, the friend I mentioned has a garden tree here in the UK but other friends from France have given me walnuts from "over there" and they are much better and last all winter.
