do you mean psychiatrist? Such a person deals with with mental health.  I really can't see which bit of my post (reprinted below)  indicates I am one??? Could you explain? A dislike of something is not a mental health issue - I dislike jelly.

UK CAMC site... every overseas site

But once gain you are comparing one county with another, it does not work with arrivals times, costs.... whatever, why should it work with dogs?

Yes there are fewer dogs over there either on sites or in homes but so what? we are discussing sites in the UK. Perhaps if you compared club sites with non club sites that might have value, but to compare other countries does not.

Again are you are letting you dislike of dogs cloud your reason

+1 and your last sentence sums its up perfectly. Only on this site  are there problems with dogs, on (real) sites everyone just gets on with their holiday and is quite happy to enjoy their time away.

Just got back from two weeks away with our two dogs. Northumberland is a very dog friendly place, as are Scottish Borders. We came across no restricted beaches, pubs and shops actively welcomed pet owners, or provided seating in pet friendly areas. Lots of folks out with their dogs, spending money locally, feeling very welcome. We were in a cottage, and two hotels this time, but one of reasons we decided to go back up there after our MH holiday earlier was because it was just so welcoming.

We only paid in one car park as well, something that a few other holiday destinations should note. Towns were bustling and busy, lots of locals and visitors out and about keeping local businesses going!laughing

Indeed, did you visit any of the coastal villages, Seahouses is one of our favourites?

Yes, we went all up and down coast, from Amble right up to North Berwick. Seahouses was the only place we paid to park, the big central car park. Very busy, but still a great place to visit. What we loved was not having to walk miles to find a beach that dogs could go on. It made it easy with Mum as well, we just parked up at Bamburgh and Cocklawburn, got her walked a few yards, straight onto some great beaches. Lots of dogs on beaches, but they are so vast, there's plenty of room for everyone. laughing

We seemed to do more tasting of ice cream than fish and chips! Three of the very best ice cream makers are up in North East and Just over Border! Spurillos in Amble, Doddington Farm Milk Bar in Wooler, and Mackays up in Eyemouth, which also serves delicious Fish and Chips! Dogs had a ball licking out ice cream tubs, and the odd chip or two!

It is interesting though, seeing how dog friendly some places are nowadays. We stayed in a lovely pub hotel in Richmond last night, dogs allowed in certain rooms, beds and bowls and treats provided, all for £5. And when we walked round Richmond, a lot of the hotels were advertising as dog friendly, only a minimum charge to cover extras. We don't mind paying this as a lot is provided for them, and they were made most welcome.smile

It's good to see that other organisations are recognising that a lot of people have pets make provision for them and of course if they are allowed in their owners will follow.

Not true, this year we have toured on mainly CMC sites  probably 12 or 14 this year  and was NOT asked once whether we had a dog with us or not.

As for the percentage of dog owners, only a poll of members would tell you.

Some folk say there are too many dogs on sites?  If the 35% figure were true, then perhaps they are exaggerating a bit.

On a more positive note, Dulverton is very Dog friendly with just about all pubs, shops and restaurants allowing well behaved dogs in with their owners.Very warm welcome too.

Why  Do we tour on mainly Club sites ? Because we avoid Sites that charge for dogs without giving them any provision at all....they are just tolerated for a fee. I would rather go where the whole family...including our dog, are welcomed and provided for. That goes for all of our thinking, Pubs, shops, restaurants. Included.

Well, we can all only relate our own experiences.  Every CAMC site we have used in the last 3 years we have been asked if we have any pets with us, which we do not.

I understand that wardens generally ask so they can give you the "dog leaflet" if you have a dog with you.

While the % of members who bring pets  with them may well be only 35%, many have multiple dogs, leading to comments on the number of dogs on site.

Since returning to the hobby just over 2 years a go, no club site has asked us about dog's despite always having two dogs with us, that is in excess of 10 sites + one affiliated site and a CL

Maybe you look like a dog owner to the wardens K cool

The only time we have been asked if we have dogs is when the pre online booking system started and most bookings were made direct to sites ,the booking form that wardens used included the question to ask members when booking if and how many dogs were in the party

Some ask, some don't and some leave a pile of leaflets on the counter so you can help yourself if you’re interested.

I think it’s wrong and wardens need to be a bit more proactive and consistent in this. They should all ask and hand out a leaflet if the reply is in the affirmative. By having a leaflet in their possession, miscreants have no excuse whatsoever when they act irresponsibly.

I can't recall ever being asked if we have dogs with us, some thirty years of touring. Or a parrot, or a budgie, or a cat, or a tortoise, or a ferret, or a guinea pig..........all seen on Club Sites. The odd goldfish as well, but they slip in unnoticed, tend not to be out and about.smile We enjoyed being next door to the parrot, it ate its way out of awning a couple of times, did a fine line in insults!

Maybe a generic leaflet, as well as dogs it could allude to the speed limit, crossing other peoples pitches, cycling etc etc.......... smile

Not bed time reading but always in the van, and certainly more interesting than most of the rubbish on TV these days, planning the next series of trips away..

    Hey hey

Ok so I am looking for a list of sites that you all thought had really good dog walks. We like to walk from the sites & leave the motorhome parked up

Planning our next trip with lots of walking 😊

    Ours would be:

Clumber park-miles of different woodland walks

    Carsington water- around the lake

Castleton-mam tor but few roads to walk on 1st to get there although a lovely walk through Castleton

Poolsbrook- walk around the lakes or tranns pen trial

Ferry meadows - around the lakes or lots of other paths we manage to do 10 miles with 4 or 5 pubs along route 😊

Black Knowl- straight out into the fields for miles with the wildlife, super lucky to have seen deer & a stag everyday on our trip

The ones we aren't so taken by:

The firs- lots of fields dogs have to be on the lead

Scarborough- little limited on off lead walks & variety from site

Blackshaw- not much in the immediate area, you have to walk alot further for a decent walk

So after your advice on more sites pkease, can be anywhere.

    Thanks in advance

    Gema

Don't walk in Clumber, Sandringham, Thetford Forest, Sherwood Forest during September to December! Known hotspots for seasonal canine sudden death syndrome!

I personally wouldn't  list Castleton site. On site walk is tiny and unsafe for off lead walks, so it's down a busy road and into sheep infested farmlands and moorlands.

Yellowcraig, Site close to gorgeous dog friendly beaches and pine wood walks.

Marazion, surrounded by footpaths, but be aware of mine shafts

Bolton Abbey, brilliant for dogs away from  the Strid. Might be some sheep around, but usually fenced off.

Exeter Racecourse......you can walk all around racetrack interior, and it's surrounded by woodlands.

Don't think anyone has mentioned Grafham water site as yet, but straight from the site out of the entrance leads you onto a footpath across the field towards the woods and the multitude of footpaths around the water.

At the back of the site the onsite dog walk leads right out onto the 'Three Shires Way' and again many path offshoots.

Great place for walking, with your dog or cycling.
