Short stay near Reims

We last travelled in France over 15 years ago with our tourer caravan , alas children now grown up so we have just purchased a campervan for two !

We are heading for Lake Annecy next summer and would like to stay near Reims for a couple of days first.

We would appreciate any advice or recommendations on camp sites in this vicinity as the last post on the subject were in 2016

many thanks Phil & Ceri

There will be a Motorhome Aire in Reims but there is no campsite - the nearest we ever found is 20 km south east at Val de Vesle. But if you want Champagne tastings then Epernay is an alternative to Reims ,and there is a respectable campsite there.

Camping Val de Vesle about 12 miles SE along the A4. I think it is in a village called Courmelos. Turn left off D944 and site is signed.

Don't you get jackdaws with kleptomaniac tendencies there?

camping Val de Vesle is in the village of the same name. It's getting very popular as a night stop so phone ahead to book. We were going to stop there tomorrow night, but they're not answering the phone. We think that they are having an 'exceptionale' closure this Septembre!

Well at least you corrected my spelling.

It is some years since we stayed there and it was very busy then as a night halt. They did seem to cram vans on and with no demarcation pitching was a little haphazard.

The old municipal site at Chalon-en-Champagne.  It's looking a little tired these days, but still a good site for a few nights.  Only a shortish drive to Epernay and the champagne houses.  The site has quite a large number of hardstandings, all clearly seperated, so suits us, and no doubt would interest motorhomers too.  There's a lovely little bakery up the road too - lovely French baguettes etc.  Supermarket close as well...

Try the municipal campsite 'Sous Le Clocher' at Dormans, to the west of Reims and away from the autoroute (so avoiding more of the 'overnighters') .

    CAMPING MUNICIPAL
    « Sous le Clocher »
    Route de Vincelle BP 103
    51700 DORMANS

Quiet and reasonably priced, a nice Saturday morning market, and plenty of bars and restaurants, and small supermarkets within walking distance.

We always choose this site too. And that bakery has the most awesome pastries. Definitely not to be missed!
