Our Grand Daughter has reached the "We know everything age"of 18 and was round with us last night, and she actually admitted that she is getting really frustrated with how a lot of people are now expecting others to alter "rules" to their way of wanting them applied,(she works in front of house with a national retail company,

Pesky things are customers. If only they’d go away, life would be soooo much better😂😂

most of the ones we've stayed at have many more facilities, I also think the staffing set up is better, and we feel as safe as houses, staying on much larger pitches with room to spare and you can pitch how you like, miles away from your neighbour....so whats not to like?

    when do you leave?wink

Rules are only outdated if you don’t like them.

certainly not my experience, but then again we are only 'away' over there about 15 weeks a year...undecided

for some reason my earlier photo doesn't seem to be showing...

a nice, large pitch with loads of space, miles from neighbours, hedges for privacy and pitch the van any way you like....

certainly not the club car park look many describe.

im sure the club could come up with a model like this if they wanted...but it would cost them pitches by being closer together.

stangely, despite the pitches being much closer together, I feel quite safe on club sites, too....smile

Can you "just turn up "at peak times in popular areas ?

of course not.....although HH is quite similar in feel.

ive said before, it's the nearest thing the club has to the type of sites and facilities we are used to when away....we like it there, although not as good as the site where the photo was taken, which has this as a backdrop....

'peak' has a totally different meaning over there.....apart from a very short burst, everything else is low season.

OTOH here it's actually difficult to book more than five days where one day isn't 'premium charged' for one reason or another...

Well this is getting a good airing! I must say that the OP makes some good points and probably didn't expect such a blasting from so many. I think the OP makes some good points. I use club sites frequently and must say that they suit me but then I don't have children, but I do enjoy watching children playing and just being around the site as I think it gives the site a more 'homely' feel. I appreciate the ruling on caravan siting to allow for safety gaps between outfits but on some sites this seems to be at the exclusion of aesthetics ie 'The carpark look'. When on a club site during August a group of about 3 or 4 teenagers seemed to spend the time cycling round and round the site and I was sorry that they didn't appear to have much else to do on site (they were well behaved). Teenagers love to 'hang out' and chat with each other so maybe some picnic tables placed throughout the site would give them a focus to meet up. A relative cheap way to respond to a wish for more 'social areas'. Maybe more could be done as others have suggested - table tennis again is relatively cheap to provide - but it would depend on each site as to what was viable and surely this type of facility would not impinge on people like me who holiday as a couple without a dog even!

In the peak holiday period in the last 10 years or so when LVs have become so much more popular, off peak in the UK it is still quite possible to turn up without a booking, except on the few "honey pot" sites, but because of the "scaremongering" on social media sites it puts off the more "timid" types

ps we have booked 3 weeks at Hillhead for next year and noted that july and August service pitches are all but a few odd days already full,so UK LV users are not put off by "higher than over there prices"

I do not want the rules changed, much prefer that members are reminded that they exist and abide by them, and are not just for everybody else.

despite its age/heritage, not many would describe Le Mont St Michel as an 'old building', it's certainly far more than this....a little village and shops/restaurants on a hillside site.

you asked me where the site was, i answered.

you then mentioned a view of Torbay(undecided), obviously not.

you now go on to describe your love of countyside and Hawes which has nothing to do with Hillhead, Torbay or Pontorson, where the photo was taken and what I thought we were discussing...confusing change of tack....

however, i live in the countryside and walk/cycle amongst it most days.....I love it but also like old buildingswink.....

and even old relics like you....term of endearment, by the waywink

I was not suggesting anything of the sort as you well know. I was just claiming it from my perspective from what you have posted (including those pics) and what people have written about being packed like sardines (I think you sad that but could be wrong), but you seen to be claiming it from other's people's perspective, that is impressive, how many of all of them have to talked to?

personally I have no idea hat brings people from over there over here wand really would not dare to suggest anything.

    I'm confused Dave:

It would be hugely expensive for the club to convert continental sites

What do you mean? have you missed off a 'to' Why would the club want to convert to Continental sites? Do you mean continental sites to convert to the club maybe?

Anyway taking it like you wrote it, what hedges? I though people who went over there wanted hedges over here? On the club sites I have been on there is a lovely hard standing that can used all year in our inclement weather with a green strip between each pitch.

Also if you followed the thread on barrier times it was asking for club sites to actually have them locked at certain times like the CCC. At present there are no restrictions on movement times on club sites.

As to the rest of your points, I think you are jesting.

If you make yourself clear Dave I wouldn't need to ask for clarificationsmile

Tightly  packed? 6m between adjacent walls is tightly packed for you? I do believe you once stated that some sites over there are packed tighter that that? I maybe be wrong of course?

Anyway even if the club would buy some sites over there I wouldn't use them.  Firstly remember I have actually lived, driven, and speak a fluent over there language. When I go over there I like the different and divergence ways things are done. Part of the charm of going.

Secondly when I do go over there (which is a lot) I wouldn't 'waste' part of the time driving for literally days on end to get there when a plane will get me to the pool bar in under a few hours. Now that is my personal view, and I'm sure that those that do two or drive a MH like that enjoy themselves just as much.

actually even if the club owned a club site over there and ran it like over here I wouldn't use it for two reasons.

Firstly remember I have lived , driven over there and speak an over there language flawlessly. When I go abroad (and that's a lot in one year) I like the different and divergent ways things are done, it's part of the charm an simply replicating what I get at home isn't. A campsite or hotel full of British wouldn't be fun. There would be no race to the sunbeds for start, or like this year, being asked by a German in a lift that had literally just started to move how I voted on Brexitsmile

Secondly I wouldn't like to 'waste' my time driving for literally days on end to get there. A few hours from door to pool side bar is fine for me. Now before anyone gets upset, that is my personal (and family) preference, I am sure that those that do tow or drive MH like that enjoy themselves and have a good time, it is just not for me.
