Static in Spain

Hi,

i am thinking of taking my motorhome to North East Spain in 2019.

The basic plan is to either drive through France or get the ferry to Bilbao / Santander around April/May and drive across to a site in the general south of Barcelona area.

I then plan to put the van in storage for a month or so before parking up and ‘settling down’ on a site from June to September and using the van as a ‘static’ home for the summer.

Is there anyone out there who can offer any advice or tips for such an endeavour please?

thanks

John

Choose the campsite where you want to spend the summer and contact them to ask about a four month stay.

Ask whether they do storage on site or can recommend somewhere nearby.

    Arrange insurance.

Decide whether you want a ferry from UK to Spain or one from UK to France  - then book it.

    I hope it goes well

many friends of ours do a similar things with their caravans....

the storage owner tows the caravan to the site, installs it on the booked pitch, pals arrive, spend August to May in the sun, on departure caravan towed back to storage (€1 per day), pals go home to meet family...repeat as required.

    Hi John

There are a couple of really nice sites in the towns of vilanova i la geltru and Sitges but being near to Barcelona will be expensive in July/August expect 60 euros a night and while they will give you a discount for the other months of up to 25% they don’t need to in the summer months. Both these sites are quite away from the towns so you will need to factor transport if not bringing your own although there is a bus route close by to both, Barcelona is one of the most expensive places to live in Spain so if don’t need to be there the cost of living further south is a lot cheaper around Valencia/Alicante region.

You also need some sort of air-conditioning for the months of July/August otherwise you will melt in your motorhome, this year in our village alone it got up to 48 for three days and stays in the late 30’s every day for at least three months (today it is 34) we don’t take our motorhome out during this period mucha calor.

The issue of storage shouldn’t be a problem as most towns have storage facilities and it is usually cheap I pay 27 euros a month for my motorhome and come and go as I please.

Enjoy your trip and if you have any more questions about Spain please ask.

    Phil
