Hook up lead
We have a small camper van, 5m, so are quite limited for space. We always carry a long hook up connection that takes up room and is heavy and more often than not we don't need one as long. The day we don't take it the hook up point is a long way (sods law) wouldn't it be good if the site details stated may need a long connection ? Our next trip takes in 11 different club sites, we tour, if I could take my shorter lead it would be good !

We are in a 5.5m MH, lucky enough to have neat little exterior lockers though. We sometimes carry two leads as we value lots of space. I don't think I can recall us using a second lead ever on a Club Site, but two are handy on CLs if you want a lot of room. We don't use bulky reels, ours are hand wound and placed into circular bags, so smaller than a reel. Bit of a pain in Winter when cold makes cable stiff, but we manage!

While the site outlet provided 16 amperes, what is your actually likely consumption? I guess a campervan could be a lot less than that. If it is, you could create/buy a much thinner lead to suit your actual requirements.

All sites I would think would need the 25mtr hook up lead on "some"pitches so I would not be completely comfortable with anything less, and when shorter leads are joined as some do unless they are useing a "water proof" box the connection is not water proof

I'm sure I read somewhere that a 25m lead would be sufficient for any club site. I didn't think that the wardens would allow an external join as although there is some water resistance it would not be water tight in a flood situation causing fuses to trip at the very least. Using a lead of less than 16 amps, would not be protected by the bollard fuses and if a short occurred could melt the sheafing. This happened at York when we were there. The wardens were going to invoice the camper.

Perhaps the invoice was to be for the burned hole in the grass?

Nav, that is so funny for the wrong reason. Rowntree Park probably has the least grass of any site we have ever used. I can recall a tiny strip up by the back passage. (Ooer missis!) Not sure if steel slag conducts electricity........

If I have to join cables, I find a plastic bag with a hole in the bottom and cable ties to secure it to the cable works to keep any rain water or damp out. I think you can also buy boxes for this purpose. The only time I have had to join cable has been "over there." On Club sites a 15m cable is mostly long enough.
I wouldn't go for thinner sub standard cable.
