Lake Annecy in June
Looking for site recommendations in Lake Annecy area suitable for motorhome so near public transport. All suggestions gratefully received.

There are sporadic irregular bus services from Albertville to Annecy along each side of the lake, though many people use the boat service which circles the lake. I would ask the Annecy tourist office to send you timetables and maps showing stopping places for the boats as you will need to choose a site nearby. Even in June it will be busy. The camp sites we have used are up in the hills and would not suit you.

we stayed at Vamping Au Coeur de Lac (ACSI and one of a few sites on this streth of road), 6km along the lakeside from Annecy, level easy bike ride into town and on a bus route, im sure, we saw plenty of busses but we dont 'bus'....cycle track all the way around the lake, a lovely way to check out the area....

Camping L’Aloua is one of my favourite places. €17 with ACSI. It’s only got 2 stars but I can’t see why. It’s near the lake, walking distance to a large supermarket and a bus stop. You can walk on the cycle track to the next village which has a market. Large flat pitches.

Thanks for the replies and the 2 suggested sites. I have contacted the tourist board and been sent the bus timetable but the ferry timetables are not yet available. The bus timetable/stops will facilitate my site search and selection. Not intending to book so hope the area not excessively busy in June.

We have stayed at Annecy twice now in three years, admittedly both were in the 'Sevrier' district just south but lakeside and near to the bus and cycle route. We also don't book ahead.
We stayed late May on both occasions and found some of the sites nearest to Annecy town itself were full, hence why we settled on sites a little further south in the 'Sevrier' area where there was still plenty of room, restaurants, takeaways etc.
Sites were Camping Au Coeur de Lac and a little further south but still good for public transport Camping International du Lac.

I'm going to accused of heresy, but Annecy, the town, is worth a couple of day-visits before you will have exhausted the charms of the old town, and the lakeside park. A boat trip around the lake is also a must. The rest of Annecy is just another big French city. As peedee has mentioned, the campsite up the hill from the old town is ideal for a short visit.
Lake Annecy is beautiful and in June the weather should be hot and sunny ( into the thirties) and so a lakeside campsite with direct access to the lake would be best. There are several at the 'bout du lac' near Doussard. We've camped at le Lac Bleu and can recommend it.
It's disappointing but true that you really can't 'see' the mountains from the valley floor. You need to get up into the heights to appreciate the Alpes, and it's not that easy with a motorhome. You might want to consider a multi stop holiday taking in other sites in the Haute Savoie and the Savoie.

Sue, if you are willing to leave the Annecy area there are sites elsewhere which are high in the mountains with stunning views. This photo is the campsite at La Grave, about 1100 metres above sea level.

Lake Annecy is absolutely stunning. We spent 10 day's by the lake and had a really memorable holiday, we never got bored of diving into the pristine lake off the jetties. Plenty to see and do in the local area, the town is small but has beautiful Gothic buildings.
I have to say the weather can be varied, you can get sunny day's mid to high 30's and torrential rain other day's, the weather can change quickly in the alps, at any time of the year! Having said that the scenery on cloudy day is just as stunning, and add's to the drama.
We stayed at La Chapelle Saint-Claude, great location on the lake and good access to the main road.

We stopped at Rives du Lac, near Sevrier, last June.
site plus points - location, easy cycle ride to Annecy old town and proximity to various supermarkets & restauranrs
site down side - very busy (tho we didn’t book ahead) and somewhat tightly packed
earlier comment on this thread about weather reminded me it was pretty stormy mixed with sunnier warm spells

Hi, Is this the camp on the road up the hill to Semnoz?
We stayed there some years ago. Popular site for groups but when I booked, by internet I think, the site had slotted us into a small road below the main campsite, nice and sheltered from the fun and games!
There is a car park just at the bottom of the hill in which you could grab a space if you were early. Not too far to walk in anyway. We grabbed a bus to Geneva, good trip!
