Underused sites, if there are any, may well be due to issues other than price and the club will no doubt be aware and be dealing with any rectification needed.

With a standard format for sites what other issues can there be other than location and the only way to fix that while maintaining the standard is on price.

I think JK and JV have explained why some sites are not cost effective.

Thanks for your thoughts JK, many would not have thought that. Surely it is in the interest of the Club and the members to make them pay rather than eat into to income made by the others.

No I don't run the Club but it is sound business sense to dump products you cannot improve to make a profit. Now I wonder what happened to Mildenhall?

It’s also business sense to look after your customers.

As I recall, Mildenhall was reclaimed by the owner of the land rather like Baltic Wharf will be.

It is good practice to look after your customers but not at the expense of continual losses.

I have brought forward the Mildenhall thread, perhaps you would like to read it again TW. I did so because I am genuinely interested to know what has happened to the site.

But the club do not have "continual losses" but as all customer focused companies and as posted earlier they are looking to keep a network of sites open and in as many areas as possible, even if it means some are not as financialy viable as the majority,as is the same as many companies with multiple outlets

But I cannot help wondering if the price was dropped they would earn their keep.

Club Sites are diversifying every year. Some have seasonal pitches to achieve more revenue, some are seeing the installation of pods, glampers and yurts. So far from getting rid of sites, Club seems to be addressing income potential in other ways. Can't do much if landowners decide they won't renew leases.

There are some relatively expensive sites, but mainly during the peak periods. At least the Club has retained some budget level sites as well, and having used a few of the best, we aren't too bothered about prices as long as the CL network and these basic sites remain. If you want a site with lots of facilities, and have no option but to holiday in peak periods, you are going to have to pay for what you want. smile

Yes, I’ve refreshed my memory, PD, and I’d obviously confused it with another. Rochelle's explanation is linked below. There obviously comes a time when it’s completely uneconomic to continue. Perhaps bearing a small loss is one thing but pouring large amounts of money into a non-profitable site is quite another.

I'll go for it although I may have to keep that hard hat on! We use a variety of sites and providers, that choice is almost always according to locality and proximity to the 'attractions' we plan to visit. Regarding value for money, with some providers you win, with some you loose but never a significant difference really in my view across a whole tour. The object for us is not to do things on the cheap as doing so can, and has, on occasions influence the experience detrimentally. However, on club sites on tipping up we do feel as if we are generally pitched along side likeminded friendly fellow members and that sence of belonging, perceived or otherwise, may be the key factor for us regarding peace of mind and that positive experience I 'hasten' to say.

My autumn tour is a mix. Two "no facs" club sites, one cheap commercial and four "wild campings". The "no facs" site I'm on atm is about 30% full and quite a few of them are empty seasonals.

Indeed that will comesmile but it shouldn't and I hope not as this thread refers to sites being expensive and not the old weekender thread?

my post shows that for all on this site the fees are not thought of as expensive  or the cost has certainly not put people off coming here

Small being the operative word. This has hundreds of pitches. I can't see your comparison?

Because, even though small, if people thought it expensive at £17p.n it wouldn't be full.

Depends on the area as noted with numerous club sites,as price does not seem to be an issue on them

Sorry really don't flow the logic in that.

It may equally be full as you say because it is so cheap?

Is this the site that you can't name btw😊

Also how does quoting that  a small unnamed commercial site is full prove anything, or indeed have anything to do with that club sites becoming more expensive as per the OP?  No one has denied there cheaper sites out there?

Athe least I'm posting from a club site that is showing full over two weekends and 75% full midweek, it perhaps indicating that prices here have not put people coming here over the last ten days?
