A Cumbrian gamekeeper find just £1200 for shooting 2 x Shorteared Owls, how pathetic is that.

    Given the premeditated nature of the offence, it does seem he got off lightly. I would have thought they would have at least revoked his gun licence, for a period of time.

    It's grouse shooting land. The gamekeeper possibly won't even pay the fine in reality. Might be paid by land owners. Big business is grouse shooting. Sorry to be so cynical.

    The report says that the gamekeeper resigned strait away and also says the estate had a good wildlife conservation record.  In general I would like the land owners taken to court as the employee is usually representing the employer
