And they would most often keep that deposit if sadly you couldn't make that booking at all.

I like the-‘I only paid £10 p/night on an all singing all dancing none C&MC site’ to then be challenged to name that site, when the ‘error’ they made is pointed out an acceptance of said error is given🤣🤣

As I've said in another thread...

I've just spit my cup of tea all over my screen surprised

I had never heard of Haven until it was mentioned in this and another thread. Curious I just enquired how much it would cost to pop down to Perran sands for a couple of days, only me, a small camper, no need for electric....

    £!38 surprised

same period, only me, nearest CC site and I could stop for 9 nights for that!

A few years back we were booked into CC Gwern-y-Bwlch for 5 nights. We had just finished some tasks at home and decided to 2 days early. We then had a rethink after a few days on site as our next site was the National Trust site at Dolaucothi Gold Mines followed by yet another non facility site. This would have meant 17 nights in a row on non-facility sites when we carry enough clothes for about 14 nights. Simple solution was to swop the original last two nights from  CC Gwern-y-Bwlch to CC Shawsmead near Aberaeron so we had two days to get some washing done and dried

I believe that there are some good deals outside main season at similar sites. Never been myself though.

The best value near here is Woodovis Park on the Devon Cornwall border from 9 September onwards for anyone with an ACSI Camping Card. Price of 19 euros. is £17.20 if they do the conversion properly.  Sites don't come much more first class than that one - details on the Woodovis website.

I made the mistake of going to Haven Weymouth Seaview in Oct once. The pictures of the mud bath that was our pitch were posted on here.

We lasted one night. That is, one sleepless night due to the noise from the nearby plant room.

It was cheap though, or would have been if we'd not paid for 3 nights but only stayed the one.

Presumably you have to pay for the ACSI card in addition though? Without the card it's £32 per night  for 2 adults and awning.

Not quite the same part of Devon, but Modbury is £19.30 per night for 2 adults and awning.

Edit - even Hillhead is "only" £25.80

indeed most will demand a non refundable deposit and suggest you take out insurance.

Was it Bridport before it was 'redeemed' wink that had a £50 non refundable deposit?

This Club will sell you an ACSI Camping Card for £10.49 plus postage.  More UK tourists should get one as there are 39 other good quality UK campsites on their list as well as Woodovis which I mentioned - and no Club sites have the facilities which that one offers.

    It's a fine site, but .......

Full payment 42 days in advance and no refund if cancelled less than 42 days in advance unless you take out their own cancellation policy - couldn't find details of deposit required or anything about ACSI on their website though I take your word that it is accepted.

Not for us though. There's a CL in Tavistock with toilet & shower for £14 a night!

4 miles out is not quiet the city centre site RP is. Try parking a car for 24 hrs in the heart of the city centre. At RP you can park car, pitch caravan, erected awning, have dogs and or children with you and have those ablutions on tap too for pretty much the same cost if not less. With the car in car park you would also need to factor in hotel costs too to 'enjoy' that city break!

Depends on ones tastes Micky. I have stayed at a nice family run guest house with 8 other friends in York. Reasonably priced, 15 minutes from the centre and free carpark. That was different as the object was to spend time with friends.

Ordinarily one day in York is ample for me. Rather than stop 1 mile from the centre it makes more sense to me to be 4 miles out, use the P&R for a day and see elsewhere for the remains of what for me would be a 5 night stay before moving on

Not good for an evening out ,i think RP beats anything in the area for convenience,so a price worth paying in my book, and plenty of others wink

I think that sums it up, each to our own! But to suggest one provider is better than another is dependant on our own needs, desires and purse strings. However, a day out is not the same as a day and a night out in the city!

5 or 6 hours in any city is enough for me Micky. So for me better outside the city for my other trips

But us of the bus pass generation can go to numerous destinations from the city centre, including the great trip to Whitby over the moors, just a short walk from RPinnocent

Likewise, but for many a city centre weekend break involves out of hrs bus times. Too often I find the last bus back, including the Park and Rides, is too early.

I've had my pass for 5 years and 10 months JVB. Buses are OK for getting into towns etc but, often not much else. Oh, and mine is a Welsh bus pass smile

Last bus is ample late enough for me Micky. If I want a night out it is with friends and nearer to home. laughing

If I used RP I would be heading back after a day out into the rush hour traffic

Quite agree. The only reason for staying at the mentioned site is either cheapness or availability if you need to be near York for a special occasion and can't get into the Club site. Rowntree Park is only half a mile walk from York Castle which is virtually in the City Centre. It is also not that far to walk to the Railway Museum. We don't need toilet/shower facilities but I would still go for Rowntree Park as my first option. Beechwood Grange is no use to us as there are no easy transport links on foot.

We have a car David and a day in York is ample for many. There are pros and cons and for some the pros outweigh the cons. For me it is t'other way.

For me the sites outside are better placed
