Travelling from North to South France can toll charges be avoided

    The answer is of course yes whatever route you choose.  But you will find your journey time will be much longer and you will be sick of the sight of speed bumps and roundabouts!  Michelin maps is your guide.

     Use ViaMichelin route finder and ask for a toll free route.

    The A20 from Vierzon to Brive and the A75 from Clermont Ferrand to the Mediterranean are both toll free motorways for part of your route south

    from where in the north to where in the south.....might be a preferred route someone can offer...

    Hi thanks for the replys we hope to get the ferry to caen then head for la rochelle from there towards the south coast

    From Caen It's toll free motorway via Rennes as far as Nantes on your route to La Rochelle.

    Hi when i put caen to rennes or nantes in Michelin rout finder it says toll charges

    Under Route Planner there is a slot that says Options. If you click on that it gives you the chance to specify toll free.

    Just remember to unset it here. Our route to Ashford kept going through central London, or the wrong way round the M25. I was most puzzled, until I remembered I had specified toll free months before and not changed it.😂

    A good road atlas will be a wise investment. It will show you toll roads and toll free roads in different colours.
