I must say I don't understand the 'concern'...

even at €1.10 to the pound you'll get 10% more euros than your pounds in a Country (France) where most items are a similar price (pound/euro)  and are, therefore, 10% cheaper.

many, many things there are cheaper (pound/euro) which makes them even better value.....

ok, fuel is creeping up....but slip over the border into Spain and the savings are significantly better,,,,,

yes, we aren't getting it 'dirt cheap' like a couple of years ago, but still nowhere near levels to make me even bat an eyelid about going overseas...

our 'housekeeping budget' (for want of a better term) goes further in France than at home, and much further in Spain.

add in the fact that the longer one goes for, the cheaper it becomes, why the 'concern'.

ok, comparing two weeks on a club site 50miles away to a French site 200miles away with associated ferry costs will always seem 'expensive'.

stretch that to six weeks and thebother costs are comfortably absorbed, make it three months or more and it's a no brainer.

no one is saying that a two week break in France, which includes a ferry trip, is ever going to be a bargain compared to the same break in the uk.

however, firstly the Dover crossings aren't that expensive (even at peak) and the sites in France will probably be charging ACSI prices during most of the time the CC think it can get away with their highest band.

so, going via Dover ferry and staying on an ACSI site might well make a family two week break competitive with the UK.

Whats more, the French (family) site will, almost certainly have far more facilities to entertain a family that a typical club efforts.

throw in the better weather and the case can easily be built.

BTW, your Framglais is coming on....wink
