Municipal sites guide for France
hi new to caravanning but have used municipal sites in france before, we are travelling down to south of france and maybe stop on the way was wondering if anyone knows of a guide for municipal sites please thanks tricia

In the last few years Municipal sites have been closing down at a great rate or converted to full commercial sites. In the last year a new organisation called Camping-Carparks has been created and they are liaising with many French Marie’s and converting a lot of Municipals into Camping-Carparks. Some are like Aires and therefore only for MHs and camping cars, except in peak season, but many are for both types of rig. I have just joined them for €4 in readiness for my next trip in a September. Take a look at their web site:

We used a few of their Aires last year and in general they were all pretty good, most have EHU & WiFi, all seem to have services which are included in the price and you can just pop in and park for up to 5 hours I thing for around €5 which would also allow you to use the services. g Also many of them have a minimum of 35 SQ Meters so you can get your table, chairs and awning out if you like.

The aires aren't much use for a caravanner.
Although it is true many municipals have closed or been transferred to private ownership there are still many still keeping the flag flying. We stayed at 2 excellent municipals in June this year - Les Ormes near Chatellerault and Ligny le Chatel near Chablis.

If you would like to say where you are starting from and where in the south of France you are going to then suggested municipal sites will flow ...Nantes, Troyes, La Fleche, Dijon, Montmorillon, St Pourcain-sur-Sioule, Chateaumeillant, and Issoire all have good quality municipal sites which have served us well in the past on north/south trundles. But all were on different routes .

Le Guide Official Camping Caravanning (yes that's the correct title) is published every year, and contains details of not only all the municipal sites, but all the commercial sites too. You can usually buy it from Amazon and the like, or from Vicarious Books, but it is also available in the larger supermarket travel book section.
We bought ours this year from a LeClerc supermarket at a few cents less than the published price.
Or download 'Archie's Campings' for your SatNav and have sites pop up as POI's as you travel along! Files can be downloaded for most SatNavs free or charge or you can purchase a (lifetime updates) App for a small amount.
There is a new update due on the 1st September and I'll publish details when it's available.
