Touring down Mosel next week. Not used Stellplatz before (got the 2015 Bord Atlas but its in German of course.) How do they work do you just turn up? Do you check in with anybody or wait for someone to collect money? Is electric hook up available? Any hints and tips recommendations gratefully received.

I'm no expert but if you do a Google search for What is a Stellplatz you will find a description of many of the different variants - coin operated entrances,  coin operated fresh water and waste dumping, metered electricity and so on. Then CamperContact has photos, prices and reviews for individual sites

We used stellplatz on the Mosel in September last year.  There are no hard and fast rules on payment, some you pay at a machine, a few via a barrier and some (the majority ?) you pay the collector.  At all of them, we just turned up.

Quite a few we stayed on had EHU, but not all.  It's worth doing a little bit of pre-planning using CamperContact or the Stellplatz Guide as some of the more popular ones will be full if you leave it 'till after 3pm to arrive.

They are situated on both sides of the river, so it's worth planning your route in advance to save having to double back when you see one on the other side of the river that you fancy.
