Driving to the share
We are driving through France starting in le havre. We will be in a car 2 adults and a dog. We would like where possible to avoid tolls in France, but some tolls are with paying as they can save a lot of time and mileage. Does anyone have a route they can recommend

It does depend where you are going. Give us a clue

As ET suggests we need to know a destination, or is that a typo in the title? Would also suggest buying the Michelin yellow road atlas as that is fairly easy to work out routes on. With the laminated version you can trace the route on the map with a chinagraph pencil.

Routes also depend on how long you have got. Bing maps says the most direct route is 1235 miles (currently suggesting 24 hrs and 26 minutes) which is a fair bit of driving especially if you're short on time which would suggest pay the tolls. Enjoy the drive.

We've done the trip on numerous occasions as we stay for 6 months at a time. There are toll roads that are with using as they save numerous amounts of miles and hold ups But reading the Web there are short cuts that avoid tolls and those are the ones I was asking if anyone had experience of And yes we will enjoy the drive and the winter on the algarve. Thanks for your response

Well the obvious choice across France is on the Poitiers to Bordeaux stretch . The A10 autoroute is perhaps 10 or 15 minutes quicker than the N10 dual carriageway but will cost you 32 euros. And if you travel on a Sunday the N10 will be free of HGVs.
