Caravan stops in germany
We have been motorhomers but for mobility reasons have exchanged motorhome for a caravan. We are looking to travel via Harwich and hook of holland to Delft for a week and then on to somewhere by the Mosel for a week.
We have travelled in France (with the motorhome) but never in Holland or Germany. So 2 questions-:
1. Will there be lovely big lay-bys/ aires / picnic places to pull in easily with car and caravan for a rest on route. This is essentially travel requirement for us. The ones in France are wonderful.
2. Are there any recommendations for sites on Mosel.
Any other helpful tips welcome.
thank you.

Beverley, We are off to the Moselle in a few weeks. There are plenty of places to stop in Holland and Germany on and off the motorways, we have never had a problem. Plenty of sites the Moselle area on or away from the river; if you are in ACSI they have a number. In Jul and Aug the area will be very busy. We have not booked any sites which gives us flexibility, we just find one mid afternoon. Strangely, the price of fuel in Germany changes during the day being at it's most expensive early morning and late afternoon! In the sticks some smaller supermarkets may not take a UK Credit Card so always have a few euros handy.

On the Autobahns there are two types of rest areas. Some are just like big laybys right next to the road which are really only designed for a comfort break. The bigger Service Areas are much better and usually a lot more room. Another option is something called an Autohof these are signed off the motorway and usually have a filling station and somewhere to eat. I have found on non motorway roads that there are not so many places to stop en route. They have a lot of small laybys with emergency telephones, marked Notruf, by they are not long enough for a car an caravan. Perhaps a good map would show the location of viewpoints where there would usually good parking. If you are new to German roads you might find this guide useful.
