Please recommend a site, we just can’t find it
Can anybody recommend a site for a motorhome please? My husband and I would like to relax and get our spirit back. We are looking for a two month stay in a QUIET (no pools and activities, but cycling would be good) SMALL site in some greenery and with shade, in a BEAUTIFUL old small town or large village, in Netherlands, Germany, Belgium or France. Must have clean shower, toilet and power and must be within easy walking distance of a few food shops and restaurants. It sounds easy but we are not finding one at the moment. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Ontswee, I can make suggestions for many parts of France, many of them municipal sites which are often central to small towns or villages, but I don't know which area you really want or how far you are willing to drive to get there - for instance Camping du Vieux Moulin at Chatillon sur Chalaronne, but it's 450 miles from Calais. And would it hold your interest for two full months? Or would you rather be by the sea? Or somewhere else?

Agree with eurotraveller that a French municipal site might suit you best. There are hundreds so you can either use a Directory/Internet search or just choose a region you fancy and look at the Club’s France site directory or ACSI book. The municipals are often identified although many are now franchised but any site that is listed as “Urban” would probably be worth a try.

Hi Onstwee, it seems to me that what you are suffering from is being blinded by too much choice. There are thousands of sites in Europe that will meet your criteria.
One of my favourite areas is on the island of Zeeland in the Netherlands, staying just outside the ancient city of Middelburg. There are lots of Mini Campings in that area and cycleways galore.
Have a look at this site Minicamping De Kiekendief for example. If you enter "minicampings" into Google Maps, you will find many others as well.
Click your right hand mouse button when on the page and use the "translate" option to get an English version.

Try Campingplatz Winsen Aller which is about 10 miles west of Celle in Germany. I have been to this site many times. My brother has been on the site for just over a year. The site is a 10 minute walk from shops and cafes, is alongside the river Aller, has great facilities and hundreds of miles cycle tracks.

Two months in one spot? In a motorhome? You must have your reasons, so no criticism, just surprise. To help you in your quest, we have a suggestion which may raise some eyebrows.
Camping Sainte Claire at Neufchatel en Bray meets most of your criteria: no razamataz, quiet, near shops, near restaurants and beside a cycle way. It's a well-known overnight/short-stay site but some folks, mainly caravanners, stay for longer. It's a well-run, clean and pleasant site. Here's a link http://en.camping-sainte-claire.com/

I second AD's suggestion of Luxembourg in particular >Camping Grit< a riverside site at Ingledorf midway between Diekirch and Ettlebruck and on the cycleway between the two. Both places have railways stations from where you can get to Luxembourg City and if you are interested in the WW2 Battle of the Bulge the area is your oyster. There are excellent museums in the area and shops are on your doorstep across the other side of the river. Great walking country as well.

peedee, when we were in Diekirch earlier this year (May)we cycled past Camping Grit and it was all closed up. There didn't appear to be any work going on just the site entrance had big gates on and padlocked shut. Normally the place is almost full at that time of year.

We stayed on Camping Gritt June last year. From what I could gather from notices posted around site they were closing at end of season for major refurb works so probably not open this year.
Probably coming back through luxomberg in September liked the area so may stay at one of sites at Dietrich as alternative

When do you intend to spend these 2 months? August and September? Over winter? May and June? Some sites that have a pool can be very quiet out of season plus, as previously mentioned, a lot of sites have shortened seasons.
Your brief is just too wide for me to recommend anywhere.

Oh dear, I hope it is temporary because I very much liked the location. I have not stayed there for a while but when I was there last they had just built a new second toilet block and were refurbishing the old one. I think that was about 4 years ago so its hard to imagine it is closed for refurbishment unless it is for attention to the pitches which in the wet can be quite muddy. There are some photos on their web site of what looks like the demolition of the reception and restaurant but nothing further.
