Hi, we are travelling from Portsmouth to Caen on the 8:15am sailing with caravan.

Rather than leave the house in the middle of the night (we live about 4 hours away)..is it possible to arrive at 2am at the check-in car park and get a few hours sleep before the check in booths are open?

Once the night sailings have gone, you will have plenty of space to park up. Not the quietest environment in the world, though. I'm alright, Jack, I'm only ten minutes away.

I've done it before and I'll be doing it again at the end of October.   That is travelling on the 8.30am ferry from Portsmouth to Spain.   I live about two hours from the port so could leave home at around 4.30am however I find it better to leave at five in the evening, arrive at the dockside at 7ish, have my prepared salad dinner in the caravan, spend the evening watching a dvd on my laptop and having a peaceful night.   Be prepared to check in at around 6am and move through the gates.   My photo was taken around mid-night.
