Leaving because unable to book

I hate the C&CC booking system. The minimum night booking is a pain when you’re touring and only want a one night stopover. They’ve lost one booking from me this year for that reason and a CL will benefit instead.
Whilst I don’t object to paying a deposit as such, to have to ring the call centre to amend a booking, have the deposit refunded and pay another for the new booking is a time consuming faff.
I think their only advantage over CAMC is the ability to choose grass or HS, otherwise CAMC wins hands down.

Just clarify my earlier post, I have no problems with how the CC operate or the method of booking, I think it's great. I think the difficulties we faced are due to the fact that camping is now a very popular pastime enjoyed by many people. We can only get away when most others can but we can't book months in advance to do so, hence we only ever have our second or third choices. This is our problem, no-one else's.
We sold the motorhome for a few reasons, this being one of them but not the deciding factor. Hopefully we'll have another one if I'm ever lucky enough to be retired and in good enough health. Until then it's a cheap caravan that we can leave on the drive if we never use or enjoy the odd weekend away in if we do. There's no better holiday in my mind that being on a campsite in the sun with a BBQ 😊🍷

The difficulty of booking is being exaggerated. A total of 145 of the Club sites across the country have vacancies next weekend. Only the predictable few honeypots are fully booked.

If I book 6 nights and then after the 3rd night decide to go to another site.for the remaining 3 nights will I have to pay again for the 2nd 3 nights or will my 3 nights payment be carried forward to the second site. There may be an adjustment if the second site is more expensive than the first sight.

Here you go -
"If you are leaving site earlier than planned, please inform the warden. The Club will retain one night's fee as it is very difficult to resell the pitch at such short notice; the remaining fees will be returned to you. If you inform the warden more than 72 hours prior to an early departure, we will refund all unused nights. 72 hours is calculated from 12 noon."

We like the site booking facility just the way it is, in fact when you are working all sorts of problems can mean that planned trips have to amended and its usually easy to amend a booking or in some cases cancel.
The flexibility means we use this booking service for 95% of our bookings rather than the other club of which we are members.
The only downside as far as I can see is that on some occasions I have tried to book a site for seven nights or more only to find that one of the days is unavailable, and some very popular sites such as York Rowntree park can be difficult to book even well in advance.
Having said that we have successfully booked York on many occasions so my advice is to try and plan well in advance and secure the booking of your choice, it is always worth a call to the site if one date appears unavailable !

+1
And the new system seems to work extremely well for me as I've got many sites that I didn't used to get under the old.

Find the booking system works well for us as we book all our holidays 12 months in advance due to us both working and having kids and dogs. The only slight negative is that it is hard to accommodate any last minute changes but I think the positives far out way this

What's the problem this time, Tigi?

Not in our case a few years ago, wanted to change site, got a refund, and paid for the nights at the other site.
Deposit is a good idea, they are required at some CLs, and if you booked hotels, holidays they require deposit which we have to pay if we want to book.

I'm trying to find the post from TW you are referring to?

Like any club or organisation, if you dont like it....leave. Your single viewpoint may be important to you however the caravan and motorhome club are a large money making business with thousands of members and much as they might pretend to listen to individuals dis-satisfaction , they simply couldnt run the business at all if they did.

Because of circumstances, we had to cancel our bookings in May and June and have come away much later than normal. So far we have had no problems getting in places. Yes there are less that have availability, but still plenty to go at. We have just spent 9 days at Brid booked last minute. Currently at Chapel Lane on route for Malvern, which I have not booked yet, but plenty of availability. Or from here we could book and go for a week at Cirencester, M in M or Brecon. So there are certainly places where you can still book a week last minute.

Still a hundred Club sites with vacancies this coming Saturday night 27th July 2018 - yet this thread about leaving because can't book rolls on and on. The myth continues.

I have noticed over the years that peak season bookings have been falling, so I think you are now more likely to find availability now than perhaps in the shoulder season and of course if you are just looking for weekends then that could be even more difficult.

Although where we are at the moment is obviously not a holiday destination, (Chapel Lane) occupancy does seem low. Currently only 30 / 40% full, and only 60% this weekend, according to late availability. I think there were more here during the beast from the east in March.
It is hard to see how it breaks even as a site. Presumably the large storage compound helps to make it viable.
They could have included it in the mid week discount offer for August and saved me a few pounds.😉

We have been members for 16 years. Our use of club sites is a very low average, mainly going to private sites, because we have met with difficulties over the years. The main problem is if you want, say, a two or three weeks stay - then the already booked weekends prevent it.
So now, we have arranged our setup to be organised for simple, quick arrive and depart. This gives us the easier chance of booking in 5-day slots. We advise the wardens that we are speculating on a weekend cancellation, which would allow us to stay longer. Come Thursday, if nothing available, we can cancel under the 72 hour rule and move off.
Were a local CL available, we could go to that for the weekend, and return on the Monday. Not a perfect arrangement, but at least one way around the problem.
It have to be remembered, if Brexit happens and Continental holidays become more complicated and/or too expensive, the demand for British holiday sites could increase enormously.

Whatever system is adopted, it will please some, and displease others, it's an indisputable fact.
There will always be people that abuse a system, to suit their own ends. At least we are told that the club is actively pursuing repeat offenders.
In keeping with pretty much all online forums, there will always be the 'keyboard warriors' who like to snipe in a non-constructive, and often a sarcastic manner, at others posts.
It serves no purpose, and can reduce an otherwise sensible, and friendly forum, into "Jeremy Kyle's waiting room".

About 500 vacant pitches on Club Sites in Devon and Cornwall next Saturday night 18 August 2018.

And by Monday August 19th some are full again. Some are running at near capacity through the school holidays. It's likely that on Sunday people depart for home and others delay their arrival till Monday. A sensible idea when you look at the awful weekend traffic delays in the SW.

It is hard to see how it breaks even as a site. Presumably the large storage compound helps to make it viable.
Interesting to note that in a very old Site Directory from the previous century that I have, the entry for each site lists the number of storage pitches followed by the number of touring pitches. Little change there.
