I think it benefits the camping fraternity as the cover by Mayday is superior to that offered by Green Flag in terms of recovering your caravan, onward and return travel with it and so on. Likewise I assume with the RAC and CCC version.

You don't have to be a member of the CAMC or CCC to buy the standard cover as provided by Green Flag and RAC, so you don't have to join either club to join either breakdown service, it is only if you wish the added extra parts that are useful if you tow a caravan.

dunelm- the cub is run on the local authority model. Other peoples monies so don't care about waste, The first priority is to retain jobs, keep the empire going and encompass every non essential aspect. Forget the basics and value for monies for members, they don't count.

I think we both know you’ll twist it to be anti C&MC to fit your agenda DD. An observation not an attack incidentally. You can’t put me in the oft quoted C&MC lovers category😂😂

Would you say the same about other offers from the club, R&R, such as discount at a retailer, provision of overseas holiday insurance and so on? I feel you’re making something out of nothing here.

You don’t show as being a member of CAMC in your avatar so perhaps you don’t want to join any club. However, if you are a member, why not just be glad you have access to the enhanced recovery service?

I believe there are a couple of breakdown/recovery services for vanners where membership of an organisation is not required. Perhaps you could search them out.

Edit: your post has been Deleted User but my response is still relevant to a non-visible question regarding why such schemes and tie-ups exist and whether they are fair.

Thanks Cornersteady, I Deleted User a comment after you beat me to it by posting something that I was unaware of. Specifically that it IS possible to get Green Flag caravan cover (albeit a lesser cover) without belonging to the club. Nowhere in CAMC or Mayday is that clear. Reason is obvious when the Mayday welcome phone message includes words to the affect that "a commission is paid to introducers'. No surprise then that marketing is skewed the way it is.

I've joined up now just feel that I've been coerced rather than coming to it willingly.

Membership number ending ....508 actually. What you'll see from my replacement post is that the option for alternative cover was not clear and led to my comments. It also says I've now signed up to Mayday. If you look at my original post I really wanted to take out RAC cover but would have had to join CCC to get cover.

One club's enough to cope with methinks.

Unfortunately, by deleting your post, which contained far more than you suggest, you left mine in isolation leaving others wondering what I was talking about. Perhaps an edit of yours would have been more appropriate?

I’m puzzled that you thought Green Flag was only available to CAMC members. What a confusion! I hope you now understand the difference and can see that the Mayday version is a perk for club members.

Incidentally, many of us belong to both clubs in order to have a wider choice of sites.

May I suggest you contact the Community Manager with regard to the 'Member' banner being missing from your avatar?

belonging to any business usually gives some benefits, for example a higher rate on the Euro with a nectar card at Sainsburys. I'll check out the local competition and it's better I'll go there this week. Is that fair on non nectar card holders?

always happy to help, but I'm not sure about knowing the nowhere does the CAMC say this?

Even Which magazine reviewed Green Flag a few months ago in it's own right as a breakdown service. Also the club is very clear

Mayday Vehicle Rescue is the Caravan and Motorhome Club's UK breakdown and recovery service in partnership with Green Flag. Designed specifically for your car and caravan or motorhome whether you're touring or not.

    Feel coerced why?

Ah, but we know you're a member, DD. You wouldn't be forking out all those extra 12 quid nightly supplements for all your stays on club sites! wink

Your penultimate sentence is not accurate.

Nobody has to be a member of CCC to take out RAC cover so you could have done what you wanted. (I am very surprised that you did not know this).

However, to obtain the extra cover of Arrival (which is provided for CCC members by the RAC) someone obviously has to be a member of CCC as those extras are for members! Obviously that provides full breakdown cover for your caravan as well as your car.

You may possibly be pleased to know that when I last checked Green Flag was less expensive than Arrival so maybe you have saved some money!

Thanks everyone for the various points made. Even with its higher membership cost, CAMC + Mayday is cheaper than CCC (minus its introductory discount) + RAC. Cost isn't everything of course but as recovery terms are pretty much the same for both companies only a callout will tell if the response matches the promises. I'm in no hurry to find out.

Had I appreciated earlier the 2 tier cover with CCC and CAMC  I would have kept a few blood pressures below the danger zone. Apologies to anyone who has ended up in A & E as a result.

So thanks again and onwards and upwards. Next stop a dive into the sites book. Those with a weak constitution might want to bypass posts from me.
