Green Flag or AA or RAC

Not at all.
It's RAC Arrival via C&CC. As you can see, I've opted out of some levels of cover so it may not be a fair comparison for you.
It’s personal based cover for two of us and covers us whatever vehicle we're travelling in, even as a passenger.
The renewal premium was £221 and I haggled it down to £120.

Horses for courses, it matters not to me that I don’t have onward travel etc.

And we have. Our first MH was carried home from Scotland with no arguments. The recovery wagon towed our trailer while we drove the toad.
It's not an experience I’d want to repeat but we couldn’t fault the RAC.

And was it in one trip, or a succession of relays as favoured by the AA

So it seems as if the RAC are very expensive compared to the equivalent Mayday cover.
My big issue is the treatment of dogs as accessories, rather than living beings. The T&C's of most rescue insurance ultimately put the recovery of pets as your responsibility.
I would imagine that there is a huge target market for the first insurer to consider pets as part of the "passenger" package.
My current decision at the moment is to stick with Mayday and swallow a rental car cost at my own expense, although I was quoted over £250 last week, because the rental company weren't open over the weekend, so 3days hire, travel costs to pick up/drop off hire car and about £70 one-way supplement.

They have. It’s now included.
It's worth pointing out that with a MH, if it's in a garage your bed goes with it so bang goes the holiday. No amount of onward travel or whatever is going to provide a van on site to sleep and live in. If the MH breaks, then it’s a case of get on a train and have the van brought home once fixed. We even carry bags to pack our worldly goods in should that happen.
PS. Relay is an AA service. The RAC scheme is Arrival.

Two legs of the journey in view of the distance. One recovery company from Glasgow took it to Preston and, the next day, it arrived in Cornwall carried by a Lancs company.

To me, it represents value for money at £120. Although I’d reconsider at the full price, at the end of the day, I’m happy with the service provided and cost isn’t everything.
Incidentally, we had a dog at the time of the rescue I outlined and he travelled with us in the toad. Had we not had the car, we would have hired one or caught a train to bring him and us home.

And not be able to turn a wheel even to get to the MHSP? No thanks.
Option or not, it wouldn’t be practical, especially as we tend to tour and only stay on each site for one or two nights. It’s a different mindset from the days of yore when we holidayed in a caravan and stayed in one place for 5-7 days.

Also worth considering that because a motorhome needs a repair it does not mean it cannot provide accomodation. We were unable to use the car for 3 days due to a stone puncturing the power steering coolant line and waiting for parts. If we had been in a MH we could have still used it whilst sited at Sandringham and been without for about 4 hours. If the repair for some reason took longer than expected we would be able to be covered for accomodation. Also if we broke down going to a hotel by car to meet with friends (for example) we would be taken to the hotel and brought home after the weekend.

Yep, you got it! 👍
Easy, the case you quote is a simple ‘day job’. No garage in the Glasgow area could touch our van for 3 weeks. Sleep and live on a garage forecourt for that time? Hardly!

Thank you David. Your explanation has made me think that I should use Mayday

That was on your Fiat 4.25t commercial vehicle, was it?
Weren't you the lucky one.

I have been an RAC member for 12 years (and most recently an RAC Arrival member). I have breakdown cover for 4 cars plus caravan. Every year they jack up the premium, and every year I ring them up and threaten to leave.....and they reduce the price! This year my RAC Arrival premium has increased from £220 to £329. I sent them two emails asking for an explanation (couldn't bear the call centre waiting time). Got no reply. Rang Mayday; got the same cover for £186. I have emailed RAC to cancel my renewal (don't expect I'll get a reply). That's customer loyalty for you!

Ensure whoever you choose will cover you if theres a problem with your caravan whilst towing. That may seem obvious but some policies might only cover you if your car breaks down whilst you're towing, and not if theres a caravan fault such a caravan tyre blowout, or accident where only your caravan is damaged.
I've always remained with Caravan Club Mayday with Greenflag as if you breakdown whilst enrolee to a CC site, they recover you and your caravan and take you to the CC site, and then take your car to a garage for repair. If your car isn't repaired at the end of your holiday they take you and your caravan home.
