Brittany Ferry’s. Arrival time

Hi all,

2 weeks till le grand depart from Portsmouth to Caen, 1st time taking our caravan on a ferry. We are booked on the over night ferry which sails at 22:45, I know that you should check in no later than 1 hour before. But advised 2-3 hours.

My question is as we have a bit of a drive to get to Portsmouth, from Newcastle upon Tyne. Does anyone know how soon you can arrive at Portsmouth, or is there somewhere you can wait - obviously caravan friendly.

Apologies if this has been asked before, or if it is obvious. But I would prefer to start our holiday to Loire relatively stress free.

 Thanks

 Alan

The Portsmouth-St Malo ferry leaves at 20:15. After that you will have the parking lanes to yourself. If you wanted to stop off earlier than that, then parking up in one of the areas at Port Solent might be worth exploring. If you drive right to the end of the road that leads to HMS Excellent, there is space to circle back just before the security gate and you can park along the seawall with sweeping vistas of mud/water depending on the tide. There are numerous restaurants along the Port Solent boardwalk for a meal. Have a look on Google Earth. It's about ten/fifteen minutes to the ferry from there.
